Protect the hairdo! Johnny Depp hides under an umbrella while on set filming LAbyrinth in Los Angeles

On Thursday, Johnny Depp came face to face with a not entirely welcome on-set guest whilst filming LAbyrinth.

Rain began to dribble onto Los Angeles, where principal photography on Brad Furman's upcoming film's taking place.

His hair heavily gelled and slicked back, the 53-year-old took refuge beneath an umbrella being held by what appeared to be a crew member stood in front of him.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star's costume included a sand-coloured jacket flung over a brown jumper, which itself was pulled over a grey button-down shirt.

Faded sky blue jeans spilt over sandals he'd worn with socks, and he carried a thermos with what looked like a sheaf of sides.

LAbyrinth is based on journalist Randall Sullivan's 2002 book of the same name, which follows the investigation into the shooting deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.

The book's central figure was LAPD Detective Russell Poole, the main investigator on the Biggie case, who left the LAPD in 1999, ultimately dying in 2015.

A mustached Depp will play Poole in a cast that includes Forest Whitaker, as well as Toby Huss of King Of The Hill fame and Sons Of Anarchy actor Dayton Callie.

Meanwhile, his divorce from his 30-year-old wife of 15 months, Amber Heard - who's accused him of domestic abuse - hasn't lost its rancour.

Last week, DailyMail.com reported that her lawyer Pierce O'Donnell's filed court documents in which Heard wrote: 'Johnny seems to wish to prolong this proceeding as a means of punishing me.'

She went on: ' I want my life back. I want to be divorced from Johnny now,' whilst O'Donnell claimed that Depp's 'frustrated the final settlement of this matter at every turn through his relentless, mean-spirited campaign against Heard.'

Heard's asked to renegotiate the terms of the divorce, despite having agreed to a $7 million payout last year. Depp's lawyer Laura Wasser, who's currently also representing Angelina Jolie in her divorce from Brad Pitt, has accused Heard of 'a blatant attempt to extend her fifteen minutes of fame,' per TMZ.
