First lady showdown! Katie Holmes cannot stop smiling as she compares her Jackie O portrayal to Natalie Portman's

Grinners are winners, but this smiling star said there is no competition when it comes to playing the Kennedys.

Katie Holmes has weighed in on comparisons between her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy on the small screen and Natalie Portman's on the big screen.

The 38-year-old talked about her role as the famous First Lady in The Kennedys: After Camelot at the CA Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles, California, on Friday.

Katie's show is set to return to Reelz April 2 and Natalie is playing Jackie O in Jackie, which was released in theatres last month.

While some may be intimidating not just playing the role of an iconic figure but playing the same role as an Oscar winner, Katie says she welcomes the situation.

The star told reporters at the panel: 'I think it's really exciting.

'It's a testament to how amazing Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was, and how much she meant to our country. We are infatuated with her.'

The Dawson's Creek star the praised Natalie's performance: 'I think Natalie did an incredible job, and I'm glad that we both had the opportunity to interpret this character and bring her to life.'

Katie did point out, however, that the films are based on different time periods so you can watch both.

'You can watch both and get something different,' she told the audience.

The star took six months to prepare for the role of the famous First Lady, even though she played her previously.

'It was a bigger challenge because in this series, she's going through so many bigger things.

There is a silver lining to all the prep: 'It's always fun going through Jackie's closet.'
