He's hosted the wildly popular matchmaking show The Bachelor and it's spin-offs since 2002.

Under the microscope: On Friday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Chris Harrison, 45, had to address concerns Ellen had about the new season's Bachelor, Nick Viall, 36

'Nobody comes out of this on the other side unchanged. Everybody. Man, woman, whose been the bachelor or the bachelorette definitely goes though this change in their life. You get stripped down emotionally.'

Ellen joked: 'It seems like the opposite of rehab, because they're drunk all the time.'

Trying again: Ellen began by asking about the now four-time show participant Nick's true character (Nick pictured on Tuesday at the Winter TCA Tour)

Brass tacks: Things then took a turn for the serious when Chris started talking about what it really takes to make it through the show

But Chris was serious.

'You can't fake your way through it' he insisted.

And the long-term host also shared his thoughts about current bachelor, Nick Viall.

'He definitely did a 180, in the public eye, anyway,' he said of the 36-year-old.

Stating the obvious? Not quite persuaded, Ellen used a bit of comedy to remind Chris about the actions of his contestants, stating 'It seems like the opposite of rehab, because they're drunk all the time'

He also revealed that he had a 'come to Jesus meeting' with Nick, where he reminded him that 'I need you to show up' and not simply 'skate through' the proceedings.

The Bachelor runs Monday nights at 8pm on ABC.
