GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Is Sheridan Smith pregnant? Actress is seen regularly rubbing her stomach while singing

Watching Sheridan Smith perform at a private gig last week, I couldn't help wondering if she too is looking forward to a new arrival. The 35-year-old rubbed her stomach throughout her rendition of Barbra Streisand's Don't Rain On My Parade. Audience members at Covent Garden venue Bunga Bunga wondered if the West End star, who has been in an on-off relationship with actor Greg Wood, 37, since 2015, was dropping a hint. Something you want to tell us, Sheridan?

Spy - or just a spooky gaffe?

As a regular party girl, I know the importance attached to getting names and titles correct on place cards at smart dinners. So imagine my horror when I learned that Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had placed a card for a British guest at a state dinner in the capital, Khartoum, which read: 'Mr Edwin, Spook man of the British Government in the Middle East.'

Foreign Office diplomat Sir Simon McDonald was equally peeved and tweeted this snap of the gaffe. But, oh dear, Sudanese officials were quick to reveal the error was not theirs, but was made by British Embassy staff in the city.

A letter sent from the Embassy to the hosts described Mr Edwin as 'spook man for the Middle Esat' instead of spokesman for the Middle East. The Sudanese corrected the spelling of Middle East – but simply copied the 'spook' error on to the card. Perhaps fortunately, the mysterious Mr Edwin didn't make it to the bash.
