Katy Perry debuts dramatic blonde dye-job as she surprises Orlando Bloom with a secret 40th birthday bash in Palm Springs

She's famed for being a raven haired, chart-topping siren.

But it seems that Katy Perry has decided to experiment with life as a blonde, as the singer debuted a dramatic new dye-job on Saturday night.

Surprising her beau Orlando Bloom with a secret 40th birthday bash in Palm Springs, the 32-year-old Dark Horse singer also chose to showcase a brand-new bleach blonde do.

The singer, who has been dating the movie star since February 2016, was almost unrecognizable with her new blonde locks.

And while her dramatic new do certainly caught the eye, it was her boyfriend who was the real star of the night - as she ensured he was centre of attention as they celebrated his birthday.

Katy even managed to rope in Orlando's mother Sonia, who flew over to surprise the Pirates of The Caribbean star.

Sharing an adorable snap of him and his mother on his Instagram account, Orlando looked utterly delighted to have his mother at the bash.

He captioned the sweet snap: 'Best gift ever surprise visit from me mum.' 

According to E! News Katie caught the British actor off guard with the big bash in his honor. 

A video shared on her Instagram Story sees Orlando surrounded by his family and friends as he blows out the candles on a cake, which bore the message 'Happy Birthday Lando'.

The celebrations come just weeks after the loved-up couple enjoyed saw in the New Year in Tokyo.

The famous couple appeared to go totally unnoticed as they mingled with the proles in the Japanese capital, though they got some odd stares from fellow revellers as they shot footage of  them for the brief Instagram video.

The dynamic duo each hoot 'Happy New Year,' several times in the brief clip.

Katy also typed out a message, saying, 'Lost in Tokyo. Counted down with strangers on a sidewalk... all is as it should be.'

She signed off by saying, 'To a better New Year,' perhaps a nod to the fact her candidate Hillary Clinton, who she promoted and performed for, somehow lost to rank outsider Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

While Katy opted for a facial mask, her Calcium Kid star other half tried to fly under the radar by wearing a trendy trilby hat.

Tuneless warbler Katy has been keeping her fans up to date with her festive arrangements on social media, where she underlined there are few gags more treasured than the classic cream pie in the face. 

The Teenage Dream favourite ended up covered in the white stuff after losing out while playing a party game with her older sister Angela on Sunday.

The Hollywood couple were also joined by Katy's younger brother David Hudson who challenged Orlando to the same cream pie party game.

Her sibling Angela guffawed with glee when she managed to overcome her famous relative in a game of button bashing, which ended with a generous dollop full of whipped cream being launched towards her face.

And when the toy failed to deliver its payload she took matters into her own hands, then giving her sibling a messy facial.

In her Instagram posting Katy explained what her festive get together was like, saying: 'When my whole fam tryna have a peaceful holiday... hehehe.'

But while she lost out fair and square, the California Gurls star proved to be a bad sport, getting a dollop of her own and splatting it over her sister.
