Tina Fey pays tribute to Carrie Fisher as she appears in hologram form on Saturday Night Live

Comedy legend Tina Fey paid tribute to her old friend Carrie Fisher on Saturday Night Live - by appearing as a Princess Leia-style hologram.

It came as the show was hosted by Felicity Jones, who joked that she was there ‘because of an indie movie I’m in called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.'

Felicity had admitted during her opening monologue that she was ‘nervous’ about her big hosting gig.

SNL cast favorite Kenan Thompson came on first, pretending to be Forest Whitaker’s character Saw Gerrera and telling her: ‘I have a message from an old friend.’

Tina, 46, then appeared as a hologram in an obvious nod to how Carrie Fisher was first seen as her most famous character in the original 1977 epic, especially touching coming so soon after Carrie’s death.

While no mention was made of Carrie’s tragic passing, Bobby Moynihan made his own tribute at the show’s closing curtain, wearing a t-shirt with Carrie’s Princess Leia on it and the words ‘I love you.’

As soon as Tina arrived onstage, the audience burst into the loudest cheers of the night, with Felicity saying: ‘Oh my God, Tina Fey! You’re in a headscarf — are you a Star Wars princess?’

‘No, I bought this in Eileen Fisher, they have amazing deals after the holidays,’ Tina joked.

Nerves: Felicity, who joked that she was there ‘because of an indie movie I’m in called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ had admitted during her opening monologue that she was ‘nervous’ about her big hosting gig

Then when Felicity asked if she was ‘like Tupac’ — referring to the 2012 Coachella festival where the late rapper appeared onstage as a giant hologram — Tina joked: ‘In so many ways, yes. Except the Dr Dre that I’m friends with is my podiatrist.’

As Felicity again said she was nervous, Tina told her: ‘If Steven Seagal can do it, so can you.’

After joking that the show gets reviewed ‘way too much,’ Tina then jibed about Donald Trump’s regular Twitter tirades against the show, saying: ‘No matter how it goes, the President of the United States will say that it’s sad and overrated.’

After Felicity pretended to be shocked, Tina added: ‘Yeah! The President!’

Can't see the Forest: SNL cast favorite Kenan Thompson came on first, pretending to be Forest Whitaker’s character Saw Gerrera and telling her: ‘I have a message from an old friend.’

Could't think of an ending: 'Angry and horny' Leslie Jones joined the duo on stage

But she insisted dismissively: ‘It’s fine, no one cares.’

She then warned the 33-year-old that she was ‘not always going to be the funny one’ in the sketches that night, explaining: ‘Here’s the rule: if you’re first line in a sketch is, “Hey guys, I hope that you don’t mind that I brought my friend Ray Ray,” then you’re not the funny one.

‘Also, if Leslie Jones suddenly appears at the end of a sketch, acting vaguely horny and angry at everybody, it means the writers couldn’t think of an ending.’

‘I’ve only met Leslie once and she called me Downton Abbey,’ the English actress admitted of the Ghostbusters’ star, with Tina insisting: ‘That’s a term of endearment. She calls anyone that who is white and British.’

The Bachelor: In her first skit, Felicity had been one of a number of 'beautiful adjacent' women trying to impress Beck Bennett pretending to be the man on a Bachelor-style show called Beard Hunk

Works for me: No matter what any of the women said — with one even pretending to be his ex-wife — Beck’s Beard Hunk appeared unfazed, even when Felicity’s girl told him she had five different STDs

Dealbreaker: But when she told him she ‘didn’t bring a bikini, I brought a one piece’ he was outraged - telling her ‘I’ll walk you out’ as he led her off the show

Tina, still in character as a hologram, then told her: ‘And remember, if all else fails you should know the back in season 35 I put a fatal flaw in the system — if you take out Kenan Thompson the studio will explode.’

When Felicity asked if that was why ‘he’s been on the show so long,’ Kenan popped out and said: ‘Well, that and he has a family.’

Thanking her for her words of advice, Felicity asked if there was anything she could do for Tina in return, with the actress pretending to make a pitch for a part in Star Wars.

‘Yes, you must get this message to JJ Abrams,’ she told her. ‘Tell him I am technically available to act in films.’

Monster: She later got to play a princess who was cursed at birth — to be 15 pounds heavier every night

Option: Kate McKinnon's witch who cast the spell at childbirth returned — telling them the curse could be overturned if the prince lost ‘one quarter inch from his penis’ every night.

Nope: Yeah, no, we can’t afford to lose that,’ the Princess agreed as the Prince refused

At that, referring to Tina’s earlier warning about her, Leslie came onstage, telling them she was ‘angry AND horny.’

‘See, there it is,’ Tina told her. ‘Now go out there and make it happen,’ she said, the hologram disappearing and the real Tina soon coming out to hug Felicity at the end of the monologue, during which she had also joked that another upcoming Star Wars spinoff was going to be ‘the first NC-17 Star Wars movie, the Force Arouses.’

In her first skit, Felicity had been one of a number of 'beautiful adjacent' women trying to impress Beck Bennett pretending to be the man on a Bachelor-style show called Beard Hunk.

Appearing in a pink dress, she told him her ‘name is Ali and I was born in an Ashley’ - quickly correcting herself: ‘Sorry, my name is Ashley and I was born in an alley.’

Uptight: Felicity’s most ridiculous look came in a skit where she had a terrible bob hairstyle as she pretended to be a nerdy pharmaceutical worker on a getaway to Hawaii

Makes you hole weak: There, they were challenged to a ‘jokeyoake’ - karaoke where they tell jokes instead of sing — to prove they are not as stuffy as people assume people in their profession would be

She later insisted she was ‘born eight months early,’ was ‘in an incubator for five years’ and ‘doctors spent millions of dollars to keep me alive’ - just so she could live to ‘promote iced tea on Instagram.’

No matter what any of the women said — with one even pretending to be his ex-wife — Beck’s Beard Hunk appeared unfazed, even when Felicity’s girl told him she had five different STDs.

Serious: In another skit, she played an actress on a serious show discussing her art and ‘Hollywood’s invaluable role in politics,’ with her latest film’s director insisting: ‘In this political climate, artists have a responsibility to make good work, no matter the cost.’

Masterpiece: The interviewer then revealed their movie was called Hot Robot 3: Journey to Boob Mountain

Beck had played a prince who was so enamored he promised her before hearing her secret: ‘I swear upon a thousand lifetimes that I will always love you until the day I day.’

But his expression radically changed when he heard it was extra weight, asking her in a concerned tone: ‘Is it just in your butt, or is there some in your boobs?’

And when she insisted that ‘some people say I look better with the 15 pounds,’ he replied: ‘Oh, like your friends, or girls?’

He then told her: ‘Oh dang, I just realized I have a thing, until the end of time.’

RILF: Those involved still maintaining their serious discussions about their craft in a movie that was described as ‘if American Pie had robots.’

Poignant: ‘If we could all harness our boob energy, who knows what we could accomplish,’ the director said, with another actor saying he teared up at Felicity’s nonsensical talk as her character, saying: ‘I just imagined Obama saying that.’

Before he could leave, Kate McKinnon's witch who cast the spell at childbirth returned — telling them the curse could be overturned if the prince lost ‘one quarter inch from his penis’ every night.

History lesson: The actress also played one of a group of female tourists who went to the Susan B Anthony House in Rochester, New York, and magically managed to make the pioneering feminist appear, initially seeming overwhelmed at meeting ‘America’s most famous suffragette.’

Yawn: But the modern day women soon got bored and were more worried about ordering a cab and finding fast food — growing increasingly irritated as the historical figure kept trying to talk to them

Instead, they shocked the host with their explicit jokes about being loose, with Felicity’s character saying: ‘What’s the difference between oral and anal relations? One makes your whole night, and one makes your hole weak.’

She then stressed: ‘Not week like seven days, weak like damaged. Or Loose.’

Nurse: In another skit, the Star Wars actress played a nurse helping a wealthy 106-year-old who was at a theater being named after him for the opening night

Ssshhh! He repeatedly interrupting the show by shouting that he could not hear, being spoon-fed ‘thyroid yoghurt,’ having his wheelchair disinfected, and wrestling his nurse to stop her putting on medical stockings

‘I paved the way for you and now you must pave the way for women 100 years from now,’ Susan B Anthony, played by Kate McKinnon, told them as inspirational piano music played. ‘You are the future my dears.’

But the modern day women soon got bored and were more worried about ordering a cab and finding fast food — growing increasingly irritated as the historical figure kept trying to talk to them, with one finally snapping as she showed them key moments in her home: ‘Yes b***h we saw your crap!’

Yuge: At the top of the show Alec Baldwin once again reprised his role as Donald Trump

Dirty dossier: A shirtless Vladimir Putin also appeared with his 'pee pee tape'

‘I fought so that women like you could speak your minds,’ she told them, putting on a brave face. ‘I am proud of you.’

The women made pained faces as the pretended to care - before finally looking shocked when she told them: ‘Abortion is murder.’

In another skit, the Star Wars actress played a nurse helping a wealthy 106-year-old who was at a theater being named after him for the opening night.

‘For the amount of money I spent, this play had better be good,’ the elderly benefactor told the actors — before repeatedly interrupting the show by shouting that he could not hear, being spoon-fed ‘thyroid yoghurt,’ having his wheelchair disinfected, and wrestling his nurse to stop her putting on medical stockings.

Man in black: The musical guest was country rocker Sturgill Simpson, dressed in a smart black suit and shirt

Wow: He put on an outstanding performance of Keep It Between The Lines before coming back later for Call To Arms

The end: The band appeared beside Felicity at the end as she gave thanks to everyone, especially the ‘phenomenal, wonderful, and exquisite cast and crew at SNL.’

He finally moved his wheelchair out of the theater through the middle of the performance, screaming at his nurse to ‘come on!’ with the actors pretending nothing was happening.

As they left, a cell phone rang in the pocket of an audience member played by Kenan - who had been the most interrupted by the chaos — with the lead actor angrily turning on him and saying: ‘Come on man, we’re trying to do a play up here! It’s sick!’

Beautiful in black: Felicity kept things classic yet chic in a long black coat and printed courts

Brunette bombshell: She wore her glossy locks in a ponytail and opted for a neutral make-up palette that highlighted her pretty features

Fan frenzy: Felicity was happy to sign autographs outside the studio doors
