Cuba Gooding Jr. files for divorce from wife of 22 years Sara Kapfer 21 months after she asked for a separation and just days since they were on red carpet together

Looks like someone is over having his Facebook status as 'it's complicated'.

Cuba Gooding Jr. has filed for divorce from wife of 22 years, Sara Kapfer, it was reported by TMZ on Thursday.

In one of the more confusing celebrity splits, the 49-year-old's filing comes two years after he and his high school sweetheart separated.

It's over: Cuba Gooding Jr. has filed for divorce from wife of 22 years, Sara Kapfer (pictured earlier this month)

The 47-year-old filed for legal separation in August 2014, saying the couple had split in April of that year.

Despite legally being estranged, the pair continued to date on and off.

Sara was even by Cuba's side at a Golden Globes after party on January 8.

The pair - who married in 1994 - seemed very happy, with the actor putting his arm round the mother of his children as the posed for pictures.

But despite this, the actor has since filed for divorce, TMZ reported Thursday.

The actor has asked for joint custody of their youngest, 11-year-old Piper. The pair also share two adult children Spencer and Mason.

According to court documents, The Jerry McGuire star has agreed to pay his ex spousal support.

However, he wants any earnings he has made since their official legal separation date to be his and not split with his ex.

This means Sara would not be able to get any of the money since his career revival post American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson.

This is despite the fact just last year the star admitted he was still dating his estranged wife.

Not that fast: The actor has agreed to pay spousal support, however, he wants any earnings he has made since their official legal separation date to be his and not split with his ex

He told Steve Harvey about his split: 'Listen, you know how things happen. Things happen, you grow up…

'I took my wife on a date the other day. Took her to see a movie the other day. Yeah. We got kids, man. We got to keep this together, strong, you know? That's how I see it.'

The pair were high school sweethearts and tied the knot in 1994
