It came hot off the heels of a rousing speech at Lincoln Memorial where the president-elect vowed to make America 'greater than ever'.

Drug dealing couple claimed £40,000 in child tax credits

Shiraz Sharif, 45, (bottom left) and his wife Salina, 46, (top left) from Levenshulme, Manchester, have been sentenced to jail after being found guilty of drugs and money laundering offences. Shiraz Sharif fled to Pakistan ahead of the trial at Manchester Crown Court last November, leaving his wife to stand trial alone.The couple's criminal activities were uncovered after police found cannabis and MDMA (bottom right) stashed in the attic during a raid on their home in June 2014. The pair drove a £60,000 Range Rover and £12,000 Audi (top right), as well as spending £100,000 on private school fees for their three children.

Thomas 'Skinny' Millar, from Doncaster, has been accused of carrying out the attack and told friends asking for an explanation online: 'And life still goes on'.

Ibrahim Erkal (pictured), 34, from Swindon in Wiltshire, claimed he had been in Paris for a two-day 'sightseeing trip' when suspicious Border Force officers stopped his Mercedes.

Tina Norman, 53, of Epsom, Surrey, had argued at the Court of Appeal (pictured) that her financial affairs with her former partner Robert Ellis Norman were 'private business'.

Female MPs start fighting and pulling each other's hair

One handcuffed herself to the Turkish parliament's rostrum to protest against the controversial reform package that would give President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office more control. The move sparked fighting (pictured) between female MPs that reportedly resulted in two of them being taken to hospital. Independent politician Aylin Nazliaka attached herself to the microphone, forcing parliament's deputy speaker to twice call a recess and halt debate on the draft constitutional amendments for some two hours.

Cambridge University's famous cherry tree is cut down

The cherry tree (left) at the front of the Old Court at Cambridge University's prestigious Clare College has been cut down. The tree, thought to be about 70 years old, had to be felled (right and inset) after it was discovered to have bracket fungus. The fungus causes decay and rot and would have eventually killed the tree, causing it to become dangerously unstable. It had already begun to lean badly. After being felled it was cut into sizeable chunks of wood that will be dried and treated before the non-infected bits are be turned into coasters.
