Disgraced former NFL player Johnny Manziel is seemingly trying to be 'a good person' in the new year after he admitted that he was a 'douche in 2016' and denies that he would be charging $50 to sign autographs for fans the week before the Super Bowl game next month.

The ex-Cleveland Browns quarterback took to Twitter on Thursday where he opened up to share some personal thoughts and apologize.

The athlete, who spent most of 2016 partying around the world, said that he would not be charging $50 to sign autographs at the collectibles store Stadium Signatures event, despite the fact the Facebook page is still advertising that it will cost money.

The company hosting the event has been promoting that you could pay $99 to take a professional photo with Manziel, or $99 for an autograph and selfie shots cost $50.

'Just had this brought to to my attention. I'm not charging a penny for a damn "selfie" at the super bowl. Dumbest thing I've ever heard', Manziel wrote on Thursday afternoon.

He followed that tweet up and said he's doing the signing especially for those who have stuck by his side through everything.

'I'm doing this signing for the people (especially Texans) who have stuck with me through all the mistakes I've made these past years #tru (sic)', Manziel tweeted.

No one from Stadium Signatures could be reached for comment about Manziel's tweet, but as of 4.30pm on Thursday, the Facebook page was still promoting that it would cost money to take photos with the former Texas A&M University football star.

The event is set to be the first public autograph session for the first-round draft pick, who played a total of 14 games in his two-season career with the league.

The 24-year-old Texas native also shared that he hasn't been 'this happy' in a very long time, while citing the difficult times he went through last year.

'Haven't been this happy in a long time man. I appreciate all the people in my life who reached out during the truly rough patches in '16', Manziel wrote.

In his next message sent to his more than 1.71million follower, he openly admitted that he was a 'douche'.

'No lie.. I was a douche in 2016 I'm just trying to be a good PERSON again#LostInTheSauce', Manziel wrote on the social media site.

One of his followers asked if he had been hacked, to which he replied: 'Nah. (sic) Admitting is the first step'.

'Have to LIVE these words not just TWEET them', he tweeted with a peace sign emoji.

Since being cut from the Browns in March, Manziel has been spotted partying around the country at popular venues.

In December, he partied in Miami just before heading back to Texas to spend New Year's Eve in his home state.
