Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange have channeled real-life rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford for the cover of Entertainment Weekly's latest issue.

Even though they were only in character, the tension was palpable between the two as they posed for the weekly's latest cover.

It was a battle of the leading ladies on the latest edition of the magazine.

Susan, 70, who plays Bette Davis, had a severe expression on her face as she wore a jade green dress, black fur shawl, and pearl bracelet.

Jessica, 67, who stars as Joan Crawford, gave an icy expression towards the camera.

Tinkering with her martini glass, the actress was dripping in jewelry as she wore black gloves and an elegant sweater.

There can only be one: By the time real-life rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford made What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in 1962, they were at each other's throats

Feud is about the legendary rivalry between Bette and Joan, who had to work with each other in the classic horror, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?

The feud took place between Bette and Joan over decades and had to do with jealousy over movie roles and accolades.

By the time they made What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in 1962, they were at each other's throats.

Playing a legend: Sarandon, pictured in Los Angeles earlier this month, plays Bette Davis in Feud

Joan and Bette were desperate at that point and hoped the thriller - and most importantly their shared top billing - would pump life into their flagging careers.

The film became a cult black and white classic, but the real drama occurred between leading ladies who loathed each other.

The film was nominated for numerous Academy Awards, and Bette's work earned her an Oscar nod for Best Actress.

Big role: Jessica Lange, pictured in New York in June 2016, plays Joan Crawford in Feud

However, according to Entertainment Weekly, Joan campaigned against her co-star, who ultimately lost the award to Anne Bancroft.

This is Murphy's third anthology after American Horror Story and American Crime Story.

It will premiere on FX on March 5.

Not faking it: The film became a cult black and white classic, but the real drama occurred between leading ladies who loathed each other
