After sending in a video to Russell Simmons, he began a lucrative and successful career at the height of the music video craze.

He's worked with some of the biggest music stars on some of the biggest videos, including Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and P Diddy.

In fact, he directed Madonna's Beautiful Stranger which went on to win the 1999 MTV Award for best video.

Global success: His films, including Rush Hour, After the Sunset, and X Men: The Last Stand, have grossed more than $2 billion at the box office throughout the years

His films, including Rush Hour, After the Sunset, and X Men: The Last Stand, have grossed more than $2 billion at the box office throughout the years.

He's also an accomplished producer, and through his company RatPac, which he founded with Mariah Carey's billionaire ex James Packer, is responsible for the Oscar-winning film The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

His other producing credits include Black Mass, Horrible Bosses, and Mirror Mirror, among dozens of other projects.

Ambitious: The 47-year-old director, who was the younger film major to ever enroll at New York's Tisch School of the Arts, is responsible for countless blockbuster films, including his big break, Rush Hour

And film isn't all Ratner is passionate about.

The award-winning filmmaker recently dished about his other passion in Haute Living magazine: whiskey.

He's started a new whiskey venture as a tribute to his Hollywood mansion; his home will now go down in history as a whiskey brand called Hilhaven Lodge, not-so-coincidentally, also the name of his home.

Ratner's mansion is an iconic party spot for Hollywood's elite, according to the magazine, and earned its reputation long before Ratner bought the impressive home in the hills.

Man of many passions: The award-winning filmmaker recently dished about his other passion in Haute Living magazine: whiskey

Hilhaven Lodge, was initially built by Hoover Dam architect Gordon B. Kaufmann as his 'entertainment quarters.'

Since then, it's been the centerpiece of all kinds of Hollywood drama.  It was at Ratner's home that Casablanca star Ingrid Bergman became pregnant with Roberto Rossellini's child, while still married to someone else.

So the self-proclaimed Hollywood party-boy scooped it up the second it went on the market in 2000.

Infamous: The whiskey is actually a tribute to his Hollywood mansion called Hilhaven Lodge, not-so-coincidentally, also the name of his home

He's had it ever since and decided a house like that deserved something as prestigious as a fine whiskey.

According to Ratner, nine years ago he met the chief marketing officer of Diageo, a liquor company with brands like, Johnnie Walker, Guinness and Crown Royal.

'We should do a brand named after this house, because it deserves its own brand,' he told the magazine he said at the time.

He continued: 'Many celebrations took place for decades in this house.  It was built for the sole purpose of entertaining.'

And so the whiskey was born.

Colorful history: Hilhaven Lodge, was initially built by Hoover Dam architect Gordon B. Kaufmann as his 'entertainment quarters' and became a Hollywood hotspot for years

'Everything in that bottle is like a living, breathing embodiment of what the house is,' Ratner told the magazine.

And it's become an overnight success.

'I'm so happy I waited nine years to get it right. [The Hilhaven Lodge] isn't the usual spirits brand that has a celebrity endorsing it. I wanted the house to have its own spirit and Hilhaven is just that,' he gushed.

Similar to his successful film career, Ratner believes in following his intuition.

'[I] don't really have a strategy for my own career, so I always go with my gut instincts.'
