Why celebrity mothers like the Duchess of Cambridge and Holly Willoughby are embracing a more daring style at the age of 35 (and it's all about showing off their post-baby figures)

  • Stars increasingly embracing racier and quirkier fashions when they reach 35
  • Celebrity stylist Naomi Isted said it's down to wanting to flaunt post baby bodies
  • Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Fearne Cotton are more stylish now than at 25

You might imagine that celebrities save their raciest red carpet looks for their 20s and become more conservative as they get older.

In fact, the very opposite is the case and now 35 has been identified as the key age for famous women to become more adventurous with their personal style - especially if they have children.

Famous figures such such as Holly Willoughby, the Duchess of Cambridge and even Beyonce are embracing more quirky and even racy fashions than they did a decade ago.

And the key connection between all of them, according to celebrity stylist Naomi Isted, is that they are 35-year-old mothers.

Mother-of-one Beyonce flaunts her bottylicious body in a daring sheer beaded gown. Accordingf to experts, 35 is a key age for celebrity mothers who want to look more glamorous

The Fashion Presenter and Celebrity Stylist, 37, who is a mother-of-two herself said the phenomenon is all down to the age stars choose to have children.

'Most celebs are so busy with their careers they tend to have babies mid 30s, then feel the pressure to get back into their pre-baby shape,' she told FEMAIL.

'They will work out with a trainer and use a nutritionist.

'When a woman has gone through so many changes with her body and hard work to get it back it's understandable they will want to show it off and feel proud to be a sexy mum.

'We may expect women as they age to become more conservative but if a woman adopts a health and fitness regime their confidence will completely change and that feeling of bloat and being uncomfortable will be replaced with confidence and the urge to show it off.

'This has a knock on effect on their wardrobe and style or dress. It necessarily mean they will be wearing the latest trends just more sleeker and daring cuts to emphasis their frames.'

The Duchess of Cambridge, who turned 35 earlier this month, boasts a fabulously slender figure, despite two pregnancies in quick succession so it makes sense that she wants to show it off.

TV star Holly Willoughby turned up on the red carpet in Ugg boots, a wooly coat and gloves as a 25-year-old (left). Recently she's been experimenting with a more quirky style, such as this pineapple print dress (right)

Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima was not so much of a siren when she was 25-years-old (left) compared to the bombshell she is now as a mother-of-two

But 10 years ago, as a 25-year-old, Kate was wearing frumpy tweed suits suited to a woman decades older.

Of course, she's had to adopt a more polished style since assuming royal duties after her wedding to Prince William in 2011.

But recently, there has been a definite shift in the royal wardrobe away from sensible frocks by high street stalwarts such as Reiss to sleek, designer buys from D&G and Erdem.

'The Duchess was incredibly country and frumpy now her style is sleek, tailored and sexy in a feminine way,' Naomi added.

Recently fashion-obsessed, London-based broadcaster, Fearne Cotton, 35, who is mum to three-year-old Rex and one-year-old Honey, revealed that becoming a parent made her want to be even more fashionable.

'I try and look even more like me - almost a parody of myself,' said Fearne. 'As a parent, you can sometimes get so lost in the daily fog of the practical stuff, the responsibility,' Fearne said.

HOW MUMS CAN UP THE STYLE STAKES

If you're looking to embrace a sexier look there are X key rules to follow, according to Naomi

1. Ditch the flats: The first thing Naomi recommends is a great pair of heels. They do wonders to elongate the frame and give legs a longer, sexier look.

2. Turn insecurities to your advantage: If you feel uncomfortable showing your arms off; improvise and get a sexy lace sleeve (like myshimmy) to jazz up a slightly dull dress.

3. Avoid big prints or stripes: Especially if you are unsure how to dress your frame. Block colours are great.

4. Add lace to your wardrobe: It instantly ups the sexiness factor.

5. Emphasise your best assets: If you have larger hips get something that pulls you in at the waist. Or if you have cleavage, wear tops that emphasis your shape. Stay away from cuts that emphasise the areas you don't feel as comfortable with.

'Actually I want to then have more fun with my clothing and feel more like me.

'If anything, it's [parenting] has enhanced what I like, rather than dressing like whatever a "mum" should dress like.'

'Fearne's style was actually quite plain 10 years ago,' Naomi said. 'But she now oozes sex appeal.

She's always liked to show off her curves, but Beyonce has an even racier image now as a 35-year-old mother-of-one (right) than she did a decade ago (left)

Jessica Alba was less adventurous with her style choices as a 25-year-old (left) than she is now as a 35-year-old mother to two daughters (right)

'She has embraced her inner goddess and recently looked divine in a very "look at me in here" dress on the red carpet.'

Fearne's close friend Holly Willoughby now likes to show off her shape in fitted pencil skirts and blouses, but 10 years ago it was a different story.

She turned up to the TV Choice awards wearing a polo neck under a sexy strapless dress and even wore thick opaque tights on the red carpet.

Celebrity stylist and mother-of-two Naomi Isted, 37, says that celebrity mothers become more adventurous with fashion at the age of 35 as they're keen to show off their post baby figures

Now, in addition to adopting a more revealing style, she's recently been experimenting with some quirkier looks, such as a pineapple print dress for Play TO The Whistle and a rainbow motif shirt on This Morning.

Even Beyonce, who is known for her uber sexy appearance, cut a very different figure as a 25-year-old.

'Bizarrely Beyoncé previous style was very preppy and a tad conservative,' Naomi said.

'Now she looks every inch the stunning sexy siren she is - edgy and daring, with a rock and roll feel.'
