'She wanted him to be a part of Monty's life': Geri Horner 'names newborn son after late singer and close friend George Michael'

Geri Horner gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday morning named Montague George Hector.

And new reports now claim that the baby's middle name was chosen in tribute to her late friend, George Michael.

According to The Mirror, the singer, 44, had 'wanted George to be a part of Monty's life', so decided to name him after the former Wham! front man in light of his tragic passing on Christmas Day.

Her first child with husband Christian Horner comes almost one month after the sudden death of George, who she had formed a close bond with over the years.

A source close to the family told the paper: 'Geri wanted George to be a part of Monty's life, so she felt it only fitting that her newborn have a middle name after the star.'  

The Freedom singer was found dead at his home in Goring, Oxfordshire, on December 25 last year, by boyfriend Fadi Fawaz.

His publicist confirmed on the day that he had 'passed away peacefully', but the results of his post-mortem have since come back inconclusive.

The Careless Whisper crooner was flooded with tributes on social media from fellow musicians and friends on the day of his death - including Geri, who wrote: 'So so sad, RIP George, a dear friend, the kindest, most generous and talented person. My thoughts are with his family.'

The pair had met in their youth - with Geri revealing in the past that she had not realised he was gay at their first meeting, so tried to make a move.

The singing duo then became firm friends over the years, and George acted as a support for the redhead when she left the Spice Girls in 1998.

Geri has previously said he was the 'only celebrity friend' she had, apart from her fellow band mates.

The singer told The Sun: 'I have long chats with him, he's like a brother. In the past I've played my music to him and sometimes he'd tell me it's s**t and other times it's great.

'He's very normal when you talk one-on-one with him.' 

Geri's eldest daughter Bluebell, 10, is already the god-daughter of businessman Kenny Goss - who dated George for thirteen years. 

The former Spice Girl announced the exciting news of her new arrival on Twitter, on Saturday morning.

Montague is Geri and 43-year-old husband Christian Horner's first child together.

'Christian and I are delighted to announce our baby boy was born this morning weighing 7lbs 8oz', she tweeted. 

The delighted singer - who is also mum to 10-year-old daughter Bluebell, added a baby and bottle emoji to her tweet.

She then took to Instagram to share a snap of her holding her son's tiny foot, announcing his name with: 'Montague George Hector Horner arrived this morning, a beautiful little brother for Bluebell and Olivia #amazing-day #grateful #monty'.

The birth coincides with Geri's ex bandmate and gal pal Emma Bunton's birthday, with Emma taking to Twitter to congratulate her with the hashtag 'birthdaytwins'.

Geri's first Saturday tweet was a message of congratulations to Emma, along with a throwback of the duo in their Spice Girl days.

'Happy birthday Emma Bunton,' Geri tweeted, along with a heart emoji before sharing her baby news.

'Amazing news, so happy! #Birthdaytwins #Birthdaymade love you all. Xxx', Emma replied happily.

And the singer's fans were delighted with the news, with her tweet garnering almost 1000 likes in just twenty-five minutes.

A source told The Sun before her birth: 'Geri's priorities have changed. Her baby is due later this year and rather than force a reunion, she's needs to concentrate on more personal matters.

'Getting all the girls in the studio at the same time proved a tough task. What they needed was one main boss-style figure to pull the strings otherwise they would be constantly in limbo.'

At Christmas Geri showed off her blooming baby bump as she posed in her pyjamas for a festive Instagram snap on Christmas morning - captioning the shot: 'Happy Christmas! (My best pressie is in my tummy)', alongside a wink face. 

The singer, who married F1 team principle Christian in an intimate ceremony in Bedfordshire in 2015, announced the baby news in October.

The statement read: 'Spice Girl Geri Horner (née Halliwell), 44, and husband Christian Horner OBE, 42, are absolutely delighted to announce they are expecting their first child together. The couple is overjoyed with the good news and cannot wait to welcome the newest addition to their family.' 

Geri is also mother to Bluebell Madonna, who was bridesmaid during her wedding to Christian, from a previous relationship with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi.
