Melissa McCarthy sports bowl-cut as she gets into character on the set of Can You Ever Forgive Me

She is one of Hollywood's funniest leading ladies. 

And on Monday, Melissa McCarthy was spotted dressed in costume while filming her latest movie, Can You Ever Forgive Me, on the streets of New York City

The 46-year-old actress transformed into character with the help of a short bowl-cut hair style and dowdy menswear separates.

Melissa's androgynous costume included a hound's tooth blazer and burgundy sweater layered over a blue collared shirt.

The business look included a pair of dark trousers and brown leather loafers. 

While on the set of her comedic flick, the comedienne was overloaded with bags and books which she struggled to hold in her arms.

During the scene, Melissa inevitably and purposefully dropped the pile of books on a set of stairs while trying to exit a book store.

The film, which is based on Lee Israel's memoir, was originally set up with Julianne Moore to star, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Melissa stepped up to play the noted author who later was discovered to be a literary forger and thief. 

Back in 1993, Israel pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport stolen property and served six months under house arrest.
