Angelina has hung up Lara's holster which Alicia Vikander, who hails from Sweden, has taken up as the lead in the action flick, based on the popular video game of the same name.

The 28-year-old Oscar winner co-stars with Emmy-nominated actor Walton Goggins as the main villain and Daniel Wu as a ship captain helping Lara.

The previous films, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, grossed a combined $432 million at the worldwide box office back in the day.

The original Tomb Raider game was published in 1996 by the London-based video game company Eidos and became one of the most successful video games of the time.

Inspiration for the third film came when a reboot of the game series, telling Lara's origin story, was released in 2013 and sold over five million copies.

The most recent game, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, is available now.

In the new movie, Lara sets out on her first expedition to finish her disgraced father's archaeological research and uncover ancient secrets to clear his name. Tragedy hits when her adventure turns into a fight for survival.

Roar will direct the film from a script by Transformers: The Last Knight scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Tomb Raider is scheduled to hit theaters on March 16, 2018.
