'Finding Dory did not get nominated': Ellen DeGeneres jokes about Oscar snub for her animated film

The Oscar nominations were named on Tuesday morning with nine films given Best Picture nods.

But Ellen DeGeneres was not pleased that her Pixar animated movie, Finding Dory, was snubbed at this year's 89th Academy Awards. 

The 58-year-old daytime talk show host - who voices the regal blue tang fish - joked during her monologue on The Ellen DeGeneres Show which will air on Wednesday's episode.

'Every year there are more snubs and people are like, "Oh no, movies should have been nominated and they weren’t," and unfortunately, Finding Dory did not get nominated,' she explained. 

'According to alternative facts, it did,' the Emmy Award-winner joked, referring to White House press secretary Sean Spicer‘s claims about the attendance at the inauguration. 

He made the connection while defending his colleague Kellyanne Conway, who serves as Trump's advisor, who came under fire for for using the term when discussing the The Donald's inauguration.

Pointing again to his contested claim that Trump's inauguration was the 'most watched ever', he said of journalists that challenged him: 'Where are their facts?

'Where's the number that disproves that I'm wrong?'

This year's nine hopefuls in the category for Best Picture include La La Land, Lion, Moonlight, Manchester By the Sea, Fences, Arrival, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures and Hacksaw Ridge.

La La Land - led by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling - looks set to dance its way to victory at the biggest night in Hollywood after picking up a record-tying 14 Oscars nominations, set by Titanic and All About Eve. 

The Oscar hopefuls are chosen by the 6028 voting members of the Academy. Actors wanting to be part of the coveted group must have credited roles in at least three films while directors must have more than two screen credits to their names.

The 89th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
