Mary Tyler Moore passed away yesterday at the age of 80. The trailblazing actress became a fashion icon through her boundary-breaking TV roles.

She insisted that her character on The Dick Van Dyke Show be allowed to wear pants because 'women don't wear full-skirted dresses to vacuum in,' she told TV Guide back in 2004.

Her groundbreaking role in 1970 on The Mary Tyler Moore Show paved the way for independent woman to feel confident, sexy and powerful at work.
