Unsurprisingly, Lily's example was met with a mixed response. Some of her followers were quick to share their approval, with one quipping: 'Swiss Army wife'

While another said: '*splurts tea over iPad* You GO girl ;-) #girlpower'

And a third gushed: 'AHAHAHAHA - yes LILY!!!- alllll love,' with an array of emojis.

Others weren't so impressed, taking the opportunity to make gags of their own. One joked: 'as long as she's deep throating she's not singing'

However, another simply wrote: 'you can't buy class!'

Backlash: One Twitter user told her to 'stick to being a musician' following her opposition to President Trump banning Muslims from seven countries from entering the US

The singer has spoken out against Trump's federal order to temporarily ban citizens from Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Libya and Sudan - from entering the United States.

The sudden and drastic measures follow a pledge Trump made during his presidential campaign to stop Muslims from entering the country until the government could 'find out what the hell is going on' in relation to extreme Islamic terrorism.

Many leading political figures in the UK have criticised Trump's decision, with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn calling for the President's upcoming state visit to be cancelled.

Lily previously faced a backlash after visiting The Jungle refugee camp in Calais, France, prior to it being knocked down after she apologised to a teenage boy on behalf of Britain for the way it had handled the plight of those living there.

The pop star took time out from recording her new album last autumn to volunteer in a charity warehouse at the squalid camp, where 10,000 migrants and refugees lived.

Shamsher Sherin, who said he was 13 and that his father lives in Birmingham, had been camped there for two months when he met Lily.

She told him: 'It just seems that, at three different intervals in this young boy's life, the English in particular have put you in danger.

'We've bombed your country, put you in the hands of the Taliban and now put you in danger of risking your life to get into our country.

'I apologise on behalf of my country. I'm sorry for what we have put you through.'

She wiped tears from her eyes at the end of their exchange, which was broadcast on BBC2's Victoria Derbyshire programme.
