'He's in my heart': Vanessa Hudgens adds angel filter as she shares emotional message on one-year anniversary of father's death

Emotions are running high for Vanessa Hudgens on the anniversary of her father Greg's death. The former firefighter lost his battle with stage 4 cancer aged 65 one year ago.

‘Today marks one year since my dad passed away,’ the 28-year-old shared on Monday with her Instagram followers. ‘He's my angel looking down on me and I know how proud he is. I keep trucking on but still feel his presence in my heart. And there he will forever stay.’

In the tribute post, the High School Musical star is seen smiling with superimposed illustrations of a halo above her head and angel wings by her side.

The Spring Breakers actress received an outpouring of support from her social media followers.

‘Oh Im sorry vanessa god bless you & your dad. Because I know how it feels to lose a family member,’ a fan wrote. 

‘I am so proud to call you my idol you went and smashed grease live the day after and I couldn't be more proud to call you my idol. I'm sure your dad is looking dad on you and if proud of you,’ another commenter responded.

Last year the former Disney actress stunned fans on the day of her performance, as Rizzo in Fox’s Grease: Live program, when she announced that her father had died.

‘Tonight, I do the show in his honor,’ she tweeted on Jan. 31.

‘I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer,’ she shared. ‘Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.’
