One last blowout! Nominee Thandie Newton has her hair done while Sofia Vergara applies her makeup as stars share pre-SAG Awards prep photos

It has become one of the jewels in the tinsel crown of Hollywood.

And the excitement was obvious as stars shared photos of their Screen Actor's Guild Awards preparations on social media on Sunday.

Westworld star Thandie Newton could not resist hamming it up as she had her hair done by her cousin

Getting glam: Nominee Thandie Newton shared an image of her cousin doing her hair as she prepared for the SAG Awards on Sunday

Boasting about her nomination in the TV drama catagory she said: 'Grooming has begun for @sagawards nominee ha ha! @patriciamoraleshair getting her groove on busting me a bitchin' look!'

And hopefully the fact the 44-year-old was holding a wooden spoon in another hilarious shot was not a jinx on her chances of winning the prestigious paperweight.

She said: 'Use a wooden spoon to cover your ear when your cousins doing your hair using hot tools ha ha ha! So clever.'

Meanwhile Sofia Vergara's makeup artist Kayleen McAdams shared an image of herself applying the Modern Family favourite's makeup.

Hope she hasn't jinxed it: She was holding a wooden spoon to protect her ear as her cousin used hot tongs

Finished article: The hours of preparation were obvious as she graced the red carpet

Getting lippy: Sofia Vergara's makeup artist shared an image of herself applying lipstick

Game Of Thrones beauty Maisie Williams was another who was getting a helping hand, with her makeup specialist

She said: 'I can't wait any longer for you to see @maisie_williams #sagawards glam look! Thank you @ryanrichman on #hair for capturing this beauty moment ✨ and @loraccosmetics for making the perfect berry lip.'

Taking a more proactive approach was Thandie's Westworld costar Evan Rachel Wood, who was pictured applying her own lipstick.

Fit for a queen: Game Of Thrones princess Maisie Williams also had a style aid

If you want something done properly: But Evan Rachel Wood applied her own lipstick

Meanwhile Uzo Aduba had a whole team of helpers on hand as she got ready to stun on the red carpet.

Meanwhile John Krasinski shared an image of himself heading out to the show with his actress motion picture nominee other half Emily Blunt, saying, 'So proud of this nominee.'

The Screen Actors Guild created its own awards ceremony in 1995.

The gong handed out to winners is a statuette of a nude male figure brandishing both a mask of comedy and a mask of tragedy; it is called 'The Actor'.

A whole crew: Uzo Aduba shared a photo of her crack glamour team

Blunt talk: John Krasinski was 'so proud' to be heading to the show with nominee wife Emily

Glamour couple: Felicity Huffman larked around in her dress with husband William H Macy

It is one of the only award shows where actors are honoured by their peers; the ceremony recognizes achievements in acting alone.

The first honours given out in SAG's inaugural ceremony included industry staples Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) and Jodie Foster (Nell), for lead roles in films.

However it wasn't until 1996 that the show began handing out an award for best ensemble, a category that is now seen as one of the most accurate predictors for the best picture award at the Oscars.

Shoe beauty: Kate Hudson boasted about all the heels her stylist brought over

Putting her foot in it: Hidden figures star Taraji P. Henson said she wished she could wear her slippers to the show

Nobody likes a boaster: Dascha Polanco posted a photo of her snack and invite to the event
