Jane Fonda misses SAG Awards due to strep throat leaving Dolly Parton to present Lily Tomlin with life award

Jane Fonda missed the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday due to strep throat.

The 79-year-old actress was set to co-present Lily Tomlin, 77, with a Life Achievement Award at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Tomlin during a red carpet interview on THR.com said Fonda was ill with the throat infection and was not in attendance at the Shrine Auditorium.

Fonda and Dolly Parton, 71, both were scheduled to present their Nine To 5 co-star with the prestigious honor.

Tomlin and Fonda also were both nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for their work in Grace & Frankie.

They star in the dramedy about ex-wives who move in together after their respective husbands fall in love.

Tomlin and Fonda were competing against Uzo Aduba, Ellie Kemper and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Fonda recently split from record producer Richard Perry after eight years together.

She took part in the Women's March in Los Angeles earlier this month and last week protested in New York against President Donald Trump's decision to renew construction of two controversial pipeline projects.

Fonda and Tomlin have been starring in the Netflix series since its debut in May 2015.

She's also enjoyed Tony-winning success on Broadway in The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.

Tomlin has won six Emmy awards and has been nominated 23 times.
