Can you treat yourself and still lose weight?
Eat cake and still LOSE weight thanks to Mindfulness Diet | Daily Mail Online
I have the term mindfulness being bandied about for a while now and had just dismissed it as just another fad but can it really help you lose weight without ditching cakes? Mindfulness, apparently, is the practice of training yourself to be truly in the moment. The authors of this article say that many people form bad eating habits through making unconscious choices; as soon as they feel they might be hungry, they just pick up something without thinking. While this definitely sounds like me, I cant quite decide if this is all just mumbo jumbo or if it could actually work! Can mindfulness allow you to treat yourself and still lose weight?
I did it years ago, lost loads of weight but allowed myself a treat day (Friday, I had cake) and Saturday when I had a takeaway. Was losing 2-3 pounds a week so it was good, safe weightloss.
Did put a bit back when I tried to stop smoking, got to shift it now 'cos it didn't work.
But really it's just being careful what you eat surely? Not gorging on choccie and stuff when you're bored or hungry - and your brain can't distinguish between being hungry or thirsty either so drinking water works more often than not!!
Doesn't matter if you love me or hate me, you're still thinking about me :)
It depends on what the individual looks on as a'treat'and how frequently. Ideally, the'treat'is that you are losing weight and are going to look a whole lot better, but I realise that might not be enough if you are used to rewarding(or placating)yourself with food.
I love food, but have never looked on it as a'treat'but if thats what you need,I think its probably a good idea to have something that you really(for me thats a Patisserie Valerie Black Forest!)but just have half. Don't be taken in by those revolting Weightwatcher cakes etc. They won't feel like a treat anyway, and you'll taste chemicals until you clean your teeth(my god daughter in case you're wondering) Don't treat yourself if you've had a bad day either,I realise that sounds counterintuitive, but that won't be a treat,it will just be you trying to make the cr*p
go away, which isn't what a treat should be. Do something else, paint your nail/put some plants in(don't do both obvs,or not in that order!) Anyway, for what its worth, thats what I think !
I definately think you can over eat without thinking about it.
Thats what a diet is after all, eating using mindfulness.Being aware of what you are eating and how much.
Eating at the computer is fatal.
Iv never had to diet before and have always ate more or less what I wanted.being so active.
BUT......now in the menopause have a spare tyre the size of a small town, and am really struggling, even though I'm eating well and moving lots.....not happy
They say you should never eat standing up,but who would want to ? I guess its because if you haven't actually sat down etc,you kind of don't get the same satisfaction that you get from eating at the table. When my kids were young,we always sat down to eat,and now they do the same with their kids(no devices either- parents too!) Its harder now,but they have always done it and so it doesn't seem that weird. My daughter told me that when my grand daughter goes to friends where they eat on a the couch/wherever,she comes back and says it was'funny'so there is hope ! I am sure you are not that big, your previous avatar certainly didn't look it ! I am the same,the'anti-cancer'(hopefully)drugs I'm on for 5 years had a turbo menopause as one of the side effects, but touch wood I haven't gained weight, just sweat/flush/aches and the start of osteoporosis !!!
No Claudia I'm not that big,but feel fat and bloated and uncomfortable and want to get into my summer clothes....also if I don't get a grip where does it end..
Going to blitz that belly.......
Celery is good.
Eat as much as you like.
I know what you mean, you don't have to be big to feel bloated. I love bread, but I find that if I have it too much(say twice a day)I start to get a a sticky out belly, mind you I've been good and had a huge salad for lunch today with half an avocado, but THATS made me feel bloated too,it was a big one though. Heyho....
Bread is my downfall,I can give up anything except my sourdough bread.
but i have had to.
m&s do an amazing mango crayfish and wil rice salad.....I could happily live on.
