They said it would never last, but Trista and Ryan Sutter have definitely defied the critics. 

The pair first met 14 years ago on the very first season of The Bachelorette back in 2003, and despite skepticism at the time, they're still together today.

The married couple sat down with Good Morning America on Tuesday to discuss their enduring romance.

Now parents to two kids, Maxwell, nine, and Blakesley, seven, Trista said she vividly remembers the naysayers.

Following their whirlwind romance - which saw them marrying shortly after filming wrapped on The Bachelorette - the pair moved to a small town near Vail, Colorado, where Ryan now works as a firefighter, while Trista is an author and blogger.

'It's an awesome place to raise kids,' the 42-year-old hunk said.

But the 44-year-old blonde beauty admits their fairytale romance hasn't been without its share of ups and downs.

'I think forgiveness is a big one because no one's perfect,' she said of making their relationship last. 'Neither of us are perfect.'

Despite this though, the spark is definitely still there for the longtime couple, who defied the odds to make their marriage work.

'He wrote me a sweet card [recently], you know just out of the blue,' Trista revealed of her romantic hubby.

She also claims Ryan has still held onto the final rose she gave him - even after all these years - keeping it 'in the closet upstairs'.
