'He's super optimistic': Jessica Simpson's father Joe begins radiation therapy for prostate cancer

Joe Simpson has begun radiation therapy to treat his prostate therapy.

The former talent manager - father of actress Jessica and singer Ashlee - is undergoing weekly treatment.

A family source told Us Weekly: 'Joe just started radiation. He feels fine, he’s getting through it and still working. It’s all scheduled once a week. He’s super optimistic.'

The 58-year-old was diagnosed last year, and underwent surgery in September.

He initially revealed his diagnosis via Instagram, writing: 'Cancer… The dream killer.'

And while nobody would welcome cancer, the source told the magazine that Joe had become closer to his family.

He and Jessica, 36, had grown apart following his 2013 split from her mother, Tina.

But she has been an 'awesome' help since Joe became ill.

'Jessica was the one he wasn’t as close with, and this made them so close,' they said.
