A slide in a graveyard and a climbing frame made from SKELETONS: The creepiest playgrounds in the world revealed

  • A plastic-skeleton draped climbing frame was found at a church in Munich
  • In South Korea, a disturbing tunnel arrangement is made from models of kids
  • Several bizarre and alarming playgrounds have been spotted in Russia

It's difficult to figure out, looking at these playgrounds, how they ever came to be.

Who thought it might be a good idea, for example, to liven up a sandpit with the statue of a garish witch, or create a climbing frame draped with plastic skeletons?

While the aforementioned monstrosities were found in Sweden and Germany, the lion's share of creepy playgrounds spotted and submitted to Imgur over the years have been in Russia.

One Russian park features the stature of an inebriated-looking pig, while another showcases the figure of a maniacal tool-wielding doctor.

Other places that play host to bizarre playgrounds include South Korea, in which a disturbing tunnel was found that was built using statues of children bending over.

Here, MailOnline Travel has compiled a collection of frankly terrifying play areas from around the world that are anything but child-friendly.

This decidedly morbid climbing frame was captured in the garden behind a church called Heilig-Kreuz Kirche in Munich, Germany

This disturbing tunnel arrangement was shared to Imgur by a user who wrote: 'My friend is in South Korea and she saw this in a playground'

A Thomas the Tank Engine model takes on a slightly alarming quality as it teeters on its side, spotted at a play area in Kazakhstan

Arguably not the ideal location at which to build a slide - with scenic views of a graveyard

Several creepy playgrounds have been discovered in Russia over the years, including these two

The purpose of this multi-coloured  structure, spotted at a 'horrifying playground' in an undisclosed location, is no clearer than its design

Russian playgrounds which feature an inebriated-looking pig, left, and a maniacal tool-wielding doctor, right

Quite an impressive slide structure in terms of scale, found in Ukraine, but a slightly dodgy design concept

Another children's fixture found in Russia - this time a demonic-looking dragon in the middle of a square

The mouse in this Russian playground, left, is more heartbreaking than entertaining, while the statue on the left is just plain petrifying

That's one way to liven up a Swedish sand pit - install a garish witch figure which appears to be clutching an innocent child in her fist

This dangerous array of playground equipment, found in the Russian city of Tver, looks more like a display of medieval torture devices than a fun day out for the kids

This crude arrangement of a mouse mangled by a trap was found in another Russian playground

Upon first inspection, this blue seating arrangement, left, appears merely odd, but take a better look at the statue's face, right, and it's more the stuff of nightmares

Similarly, it may just look like an ordinary slide when you first look at it, but the matriarchal figure guarding the top of it errs into dodgy territory

Large-scale statues of animals are commonly found in Russian playgrounds, but do they have to look quite so manic?

And was it really necessary to give this model man-pig hybrid such a pronounced chest area?

As if clowns weren't creepy enough for some already, here's one with a children's slide emerging from his nether regions
