She recently opted out of joining a Spice Girls reunion, choosing to focus on family commitments. 

But following the breakdown of plans for GEM, Mel C has revealed she is still open to reuniting with Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham and Mel B.

The singer and fitness fanatic, 43, also defended a recent selfie, explaining that she worked hard for her admirably ripped physique.

Mel previously came under fire after likening Little Mix to The Spice Girls, before adding that she found this generation of women too sexualised.

After posting a Polaroid snap in her underwear, she was then bombarded with messages from trolls suggesting she was being hypocritical.

Defending the Instagram post to MailOnline, Mel said: 'There are a lot of really provocative images around but I've never presented myself as overtly sexual.

'The snap was a grainy Polaroid- I'm 43 and work hard for my body, it was just a bit of fun, it's not the same as the other stuff you see.'

Explaining that her comments had been taken out of proportion, Mel added that she had nothing but love for Little Mix.

Speaking to promote her new Magic Radio show, she added: 'I grew up in the eighties singing like a virgin and I didn’t even know what that was- Madonna was an icon but there was always a hugely sexual undertone.

'I think generally now there’s so much sexualisation, is it healthy? Its concerning as a mum to a little girl but it's not my place to dictate what adults do- things have changed. I absolutely love and support the Little Mix girls'.

Mel is mum to eight-year-old Scarlet, who she shares with former long-term partner property developer Thomas Starr, and admitted she's not looking forward to the day she joins Instagram.

'Thankfully it's still a while away', she laughed, before adding that the best thing about motherhood was having a 'little mate'. 

And Scarlet already has quite the mini-celebrity circle of friends. 

'She's met Harper [Beckham]- all of our children have met. When we were in the band our families were so close and we've just kept that going. 

'We can't wait to meet little Monty Horner' Mel admitted she sees fellow North Londoners Geri and Emma the most- and all the children have met

'Now we can't wait to meet little Monty Horner. I'm so excited for Geri, she's so happy.'

Revealing that she saw Victoria at New Year, Mel added: 'I'd love to see the girls more but we all have such busy lives. Geri, Emma and I see each other more as we all live in North London but we need to raise a glass to Geri's new arrival.

'The Spice Girls have enabled us to do so much- but have also made us crazy busy. 

'It was Emma's birthday recently and mine a few weeks ago- we've had great joint celebrations over the years!' 

And despite plans for GEM - a mini reunion featuring Geri, Emma and Mel B crumbling, Mel C admitted she would be open to a future reunion.

Last year the songstress admitted her song A Version Of Me was about being bullied, admitting that a former member also made her feel intimidated- though that person had since apologised.

'I had a difficult time with someone but they apologised and we've moved on, there’s always two sides but I'm annoyed I wasn’t stronger during that time.'

And Mel now has a new project- her first foray into radio.

She's teamed up with Magic FM and will be covering presenter Kim Wilde on Magic for 3 months.

Referring to pal Emma's extensive experience as a radio DJ, Mel admitted she plans to get advice from her pal.

'I need to give her a call- she always given such amazing advice over the years, despite being the youngest Baby Spice.

'It'll be an exciting experience but I have big shoes to fill so I'm pretty nervous. 

'As well as requests I may well be blasting out some cheeky Spice Girl power ballads!'
