Patton Oswalt takes daughter Alice to The Lego Batman Movie premiere... the day after revealing his wife's cause of death

Patton Oswalt was among the troupe of celebrities at the premiere of The Lego Batman Movie at Westwood's Regency Village Theatre in Westwood.

The doting father was enjoying a day out with his seven-year-old daughter Alice, who wore a purple mask similar to the one the movie's title character wears.

One day before, he'd issued a statement revealing the official cause of his wife Michelle McNamara's death last April.

The statement said he'd learned from coroner's officials that McNamara had a condition that led to artery blockages. Neither he nor she had known of it.

'We learned today the combination of drugs in Michelle's system, along with a condition we were unaware of, proved lethal,' the statement said.

Aged 46 when she died in her sleep, she'd been taking fentanyl, a synthetic opioid painkiller, in addition to Adderall and Xanax.

Michelle married the actor and comic in 2005 and had launched True Crime Diary, a website covering not only new crimes but also cold cases.

An Emmy-winning comedian with frequent TV parts, Oswalt's arguably best known role is as Remy, the rat he voiced in the Pixar film Ratatouille.

The movie he'd taken his daughter to see on Saturday will open in US movie theaters next Friday and is a spin-off of The Lego Movie, which came out in 2014.
