Lifetime’s Menendez Movie Finds Brothers in ‘Younger’ and ‘Glee’ Stars

Lifetime has found the brothers for the upcoming Menendez TV movie, which will tell the story about the siblings who famously killed their parents.

Younger” star Nico Tortorella will play Lyle Menendez and “Glee” alum Myko Olivier will play Erik Menendez. “American Crime’s” Benito Martinez has been cast as their father, Jose Menendez, who was accused of sexually abusing his sons throughout the case.

The three actors join Courtney Love, who was previously announced to be playing the mother, Kitty Menendez.

Based on the true story, the movie’s focus will reveal the extreme abuse the brothers endured at their father’s hands, while their mother looked the other way.

Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato are directing and executive producing the film, based on a script is written by Abdi Nazemian. Charles Pugliese will also serve as executive producer.

Berlin: Lionsgate Takes U.S. Rights to Keanu Reeves NASCAR Movie 'Rally Car'

On the first day of the Berlin Film Market, Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Keanu Reeves starrer Rally Car. The movie, which will be directed by Olivier Megaton (Taken 2, Taken 3, Colombiana) from a script by Jeremy Lott based on a treatment by Stephen Hamel, stars Reeves as an American NASCAR driver.

NBC in Talks to Revive ‘American Idol’ (Exclusive)

NBC is in talks with Fremantle Media to resurrect “American Idol,” Variety has learned.

According to sources with knowledge of the discussions, NBC has been pitched a revival of the long-running singing competition by producer Fremantle and is now mulling options for how to integrate the show into its programming slate. One possibility being considered: cutting NBC’s existing singing competition “The Voice” from two cycles a year to one.

Fremantle has been shopping an “Idol” revival in recent weeks, with NBC emerging as the leading candidate to become the new home of the long-running singing-competition series. Sources emphasize that talks are ongoing, and no deal is yet in place.

Representatives for NBC and Fremantle declined to comment.

Star Wars: ‘Fleabag’ Star Eyed for Key Role in ‘Han Solo’ Spinoff (Exclusive)

Following her critically acclaimed turn in the Amazon series “Fleabag,” actress Pheobe Waller-Bridge is in talks for a key role in the upcoming “Star Wars” Han Solo spinoff starring Alden Ehrenreich.

The role would be a CGI-driven performance from Waller-Bridge but would still be a significant part of the ensemble, similarly to key Star Wars characters in the past like Chewbacca, C-3P0 and most recently, Alan Tudyk’s K-2So in “Rogue One.”

Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke co-star star in the Disney-Lucasfilm film, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing.

The untitled Han Solo pic is set prior to “Star Wars: A New Hope,” like the other “Star Wars” standalone project, “Rogue One.”

Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur will produce with production slated to begin in January. The movie hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
