Going for gold! Penelope Cruz channels Seventies chic in a metallic gown and matching platforms as she attends the BAFTAs

She never puts a foot wrong on the red carpet.

And Penelope Cruz proved her sartorial worth once again on Sunday evening, as she stormed the red carpet at the 70th EE British Academy Film Awards at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The Spanish beauty, 42, channeled Seventies chic in a dazzling golden gown which she teamed with matching platforms.

Despite its floor-sweeping style, the gown still subtly flaunted Penelope's svelte frame thanks to a draped wrap waist.

Flashing a hint of skin with a slightly off-the-shoulder neckline, the lamé creation featured nostalgic flared sleeves.

Penelope injected a dose of sex appeal to the ensemble with some gold towering platform pumps, which were just visible as she strutted down the red carpet.

The Volver star wore her raven tresses in a blunt fringe and a sleek bob that just touched her shoulders.

She framed her eyes with a signature smokey look and lashings of mascara, and added a nude lip.

The ceremony, hosted by Stephen Fry, will be broadcast on BBC One, with high hopes for Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's flick La La Land winning big after nabbing 11 nominations.

Amy Adams' two films Nocturnal Animals and Arrival are the closest competitors with nine apiece, and she will face her own battle in the category for Leading Actress for the latter, against Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Natalie Portman.

But it's La La Land's high-commended stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling that head up the Leading Actress and Leading Actor categories.

The movie tells the story of Mia, [Stone] an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, struggling to make ends meet while pursuing their dreams in a city known for destroying hopes and breaking hearts.

Though La La Land continues to be the success story of awards season, Best Film nods also go to Arrival, I, Daniel Blake, Manchester By The Sea and Moonlight.

In the Leading Actor category, Ryan could still be beaten by Casey Affleck, Jake Gyllenhaal, Andrew Garfield and Viggo Mortensen.

Notably, the actor who will supersede Andrew Garfield as Spiderman in 2017, Tom Holland, is also put forward in the EE Rising Star award, this year.
