Greens councillor questions & statements

1. Cr Moore gave notification of two upcoming events: the first was National Sorry Day which was the next day, May 26, for which there were various activities happening in Canberra. Cr Moore then informed the meeting of the rally taking place on July 2 at the Eden Chipmill, to stop the woodchipping of our native forests as opposed to using them sustainably. (more…)

Road improvement policy motion

Motion
That Council develop a policy for improvement to local roads which may be based on the following principles:
1. That all roads be appraised to establish the essential work needed, where such information does not already exist;
2. That gravel roads be brought to a uniform level of amenity and safety along their length, consistent with their traffic category;
3. That Section 94 funds be expended at the earliest opportunity after they are received, particularly in areas where improvements are most needed;
4. That external funds be used to supplement the budget for roads where there has been minimal or no development (and hence minimal or no contributions) or where contributions have been inadequate;
and that Council review its existing Section 94 funds policies as soon as possible, especially but not exclusively in relation to roads, to ensure the funding levels are adequate. (more…)

1. Cr Moore said she was concerned at the reaction last meeting when she raised the Code of Conduct. She was sorry that it caused so many defensive reactions around the table, as if she had personally attacked people’s honour, whereas what she thought she was doing was alerting Council to a fact that it may not have been aware of, because she certainly had forgotten, until it was pointed out to her, which was that we were in fact possibly in contravention of the Code of Conduct by not considering all available information. She said that she would have thought the normal reaction would have been for us at least to take that idea on board and consider that we might have been, if not acknowledge that we were. (more…)

Welcome to the website for the Greens in Palerang, who comprise the Braidwood Greens and some members of the Queanbeyan-Monaro Greens local groups. These groups run joint campaigns in the state seat of Monaro, and together with the Eurobodalla and Bega Greens groups, in the federal seat of Eden-Monaro.
