ALWAYS WEAR HEELS

I own only one pair of flat shoes and would never be seen in ballet pumps. Flat shoes can make us look stumpy even if we’re not, and as we age, looking slim and fit helps to take the years off.

Heels are one of the best tricks for looking slimmer — they lengthen the leg, make you look taller and instantly add glam to an outfit.

They don’t have to be 8 in stilettos — a kitten heel a la Theresa May or a comfy wedge works wonders.

FIGHT THE MENOPAUSE

The menopause can have a huge impact on our lives, from mood to body shape. Lots of friends have found their love lives have suffered as a result of the menopause, which can cause loss of libido.

You hear stories of women gaining weight and even losing their hair. For me, HRT means I’ve found the opposite to be true.

My body shape has stayed the same since having my third child and I weigh just 5lb more than in my 30s. My libido, mood and hair haven’t changed either! It’s safe to say HRT keeps me looking and feeling young.

CARRY ON WORKING

Karen says working keeps your mind active, presents new challenges and, most importantly, gives you a reason to get up every day

I’ll work for as long as I can. I very much enjoy it — I was back at my desk as an accountant two weeks after giving birth.

Working keeps your mind active, presents new challenges and, most importantly, gives you a reason to get up every day.

NEVER GO GREY

She also found that the best food to snack on is nuts

While we read quite a lot about ‘embracing grey’ as we get older, I think it should be avoided at all costs.

It’s very ageing on women, especially dark grey, and looks dry and straggly no matter what condition it is in.

While white hair is more flattering — my grandmother went white at 44 — I find maintaining blonde hair helps me to look years younger.

I’d recommend highlighting hair every six to seven weeks and having it trimmed at the same time to keep it healthy.

EAT LOTS OF NUTS

Sugary foods can be as damaging to skin and waistlines. Luckily, I find it easy to avoid chocolate, but I am a snacker.

I’ve found the best food to snack on is nuts.

They’re rich in vitamins and oils which help to keep ageing skin clear, plump and healthy. Nuts help to keep us full and are a much better anti-ager than a bag of crisps.
