Speaking in his exit interview, the visibly emotional actor revealed his eight children were the motivation for his transformation.

He said: 'This opportunity has allowed me to go, "you know what, you've got to suck it up butter cup and get on with it" because I'm the tree and my children are the fruit.

'If they become huge, that's my fault and my wife has always said that. So my resting pulse before I came in here was 82.

'When the doctor took it, it was 57. That's an accomplishment. That was great for me but I've got to do this to not only change mine by my kids' lives as well.'

Hosts Chris and Julia had earlier narrowed it down to Jay, Tziporah Malkah - formerly known as Kate Fischer - and Nazeem Hussain when announcing who would be leaving the jungle.

And the camp leader had no qualms about hearing his name read out, revealing he felt the current crop of celebrities were tough to manage.

He said: 'Listen, I'm not a leader, I'm just the voice of reason but it's hard in there purely because there are there are a lot of control freaks and professionals in there.'

While he enjoyed good relationships with most in the jungle, that could not be said of his dynamic with My Kitchen Rules star Ash Pollard.

He said: 'When you look at people like Ash who have a certain skill set but she has no people skills - and that's not a critique about her.

'She just doesn't have the skills. She rubs people up the wrong way. And because you're the mouth piece you're getting it from everyone and you have to sit people down and tell them, "You've got to do more than you're doing now".'

When pushed on which of his remaining camp mates he thinks will win the $100,000 prize, the New Zealander picked out comedian Nazeem.

'I would love Naz to [win] because I think he is the heart and soul of the place,' he said.

'He is the most paranoid person I have ever come across, he is the shyest comedian I have ever come across, but he is a beautiful soul and I think he infects people as he goes around with his ideas and always looks on the positive side.'

The camp won't be down to 11 celebrities for long after Jay's exit, with American TV presenter Carson Kressley going into the jungle on Monday night's episode.
