Britain's decision to leave the European Union has set in motion a movement that will sweep the world, Nigel Farage told an influential meeting of American conservatives.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Mr Farage said the Brexit vote and Donald Trump's election had launched a 'great global revolution'.Â
He said there could be similar results at upcoming elections in the Netherlands, France and Germany.

Mr Farage told the crowd 'what happened in 2016 is the beginning of a great global revolution'
Mr Farage received a warm welcome at the conference, where he praised Trump's 'quite remarkable' victory.
The former UKIP leader said: '2016, we did it!' boomed the former head of Britain's UK Independence Party. We witnessed the beginning of a global political revolution.
'And it's one that is not going to stop, it's one that is going to roll out across the rest of the great world.'
Last year 'the nation-state democracy made a comeback against the globalists.'

Also speaking at the conference, Donald Trump escalated his criticism of the news media, taking direct aim this time at the use of anonymous sources
Mr Farage pointed to more 'very exciting elections' in store in 2017 in Germany, France and the Netherlands.
He also mentioned Italy, where last year's tumult led to the downfall of prime minister Matteo Renzi, along with British prime minister David Cameron.
The elections, he said, will 'shift the centre of gravity in the entire debate' as Europeans begin to reject 'the idea of being governed by a bunch of unelected old men in Brussels.'

Mr Farage also slammed the 'absolute madness and idiocy' of German Chancellor Angela Merkel for allowing refugees to pour across her nation's borders.
'We've got to be clear; we're not against anybody based on religion or ethnicity,' he insisted.
'But we're for ourselves, we're for our country, we're for our communities, we're for making our people safe, and with less risk from global terror.'
Mr Farage also blasted US mainstream media for being 'in deep denial' about Trump's victory, but said Americans as a whole will grow to appreciate the new president.
'Just as Brexit becomes more popular by the day, President Trump will become more popular in America by the day,' he said.     Â
President Trump also spoke at the conference in the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, just south of Washington.
He escalated his criticism of the news media, taking direct aim this time at the use of anonymous sources.Â
Reporters 'shouldn't be allowed to use sources unless they use somebody's name,' he declared.Â
'A source says that Donald Trump is a horrible, horrible human being, let them say it to my face,' Trump told the crowd. Â

Mr Trump also defended his administration's planned immigration immigration crackdown, saying 'bad dudes' were getting kicked out of the country first.
'And remember we are getting the bad ones out. These are bad dudes. We're getting the bad ones out, okay?'
'Whether it’s drugs or murder or other things, we’re getting bad ones out,' President Trump said.
Then he mocked his opponents, who have blasted the crackdown as counter to American values.Â
The American Civil Liberties Union has already vowed to sue to stop it.
'If you watch these people it’s like, "Oh gee, that’s so sad,"' the President said. Â
