Surrey woman falsely claimed £110,000 in benefits

A benefit fraudster who wrongly claimed more than £100,000 from the taxpayer has escaped jail despite splashing the cash on luxury goods. Stephanie Zeelie (pictured) was handed a one year prison sentences suspende for two years when she was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court this week. The 38-year-old was also slapped with a six-month probation order and told to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, as well as facing demands to repay the £110,411.28. Zeelie claimed housing benefit, council tax benefit and other benefits after getting married and failing to declare the new status to welfare chiefs.
