The McDonalds, still grieving the loss of their baby Ruairi, are forced to look on as the Platts wet the baby’s head and toast new parents Nick [Ben Price] and Leanne [Jane Danson].

When the time comes for a photo of the happy family group David asks Steve to do the honours and he takes the pic through gritted teeth whilst Michelle looks on.

But the real danger comes when David asks Steve to hold baby Oliver.

Will coming face to face with his own flesh and blood for the first time be too much for Steve?

Watch Coronation Street at 7.30pm and 8,30pm on ITV on Friday to see if Steve is able to keep his promise and keep the truth to himself.

Meanwhile, Kym Marsh gained admiration and praise last year for portraying Corrie character Michelle, who loses a baby at 22 weeks, having experienced a stillbirth in her own life.

'My heart is breaking!' Coronation Street viewers left in tears as Michelle meets Leanne's son for the first time... and praise Kym Marsh for her honest performance

And so the latest episode proved to be a tearjerker for the stars - and the viewers - of the long-running ITV soap when Michelle met Leanne's newborn son.

Her story-line has been a tough one to watch,  as she has found the aftermath of the ordeal to be devastating.

But viewers at home found it even more upsetting, given that Michelle has no idea the baby is her own husband Steve's child, thanks to the one night stand he had with Leanne.

Despite being unaware of this, she still broke down in tears, still devastated about her own loss.

'You have no idea how special you are. Your mummy waited such a long time for you. And now you’re here, she loves you all the more,' Michelle said to the baby when left alone with him.

'All good things in life come if you’re patient. When the time’s right. Never give up on your dreams kid.'

This was met with an outpouring on Twitter, as fans praised the show's writing in dealing with the topic, and Kym's acting.

'Aww Michelle and baby Oliver. Must have been so hard to do, but played so fantastically #Corrie,' came a first tweet.

Someone else typed:  'What a heartbreaking moment for Michelle when holding the baby #Corrie.'

'It's really actually is no fun at all watching Michelle (who is such a likeable character) get lied to by EVERYONE #corrie,' someone else posted, referencing the even sadder element of the story.

Another seemed far more concerned with the baby casting: 'If that's a newborn then I'm a carrot!
