'You work hard but don't have much talent!' Eamonn Holmes makes constant digs at Ant & Dec on This Morning on the eve of Saturday Night Takeaway's return

On Friday, This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford nipped across to the Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway studio for a chat with the boys on the eve of the show's return.

And the four presenters - who have all been ITV regulars for years - were sure to engage in a bit of banter as Ant & Dec took a break from their rehearsal.

'How on Earth has it reached 14 seasons?' Eamonn joked, referencing the longevity of the series.

'It must be those 200 National Television Awards they've kept winning!' Ruth remarked, getting in on the joke.

The famous duo - who indeed scooped their 29th, 30th and 31st NTA this month, having won the coveted Landmark Award in 2014 - shot the breeze about the new season, discussing what to expect.

But Eamonn couldn't resist making a few jibes at the mega-successful TV stars.

'Being funny on a Saturday night is a serious business,' he said. 'Do you feel a massive weight on those little shoulders of yours Dec, for the future of Saturday night TV?'

Live for the weekend like Dec in a sweatshirt by Saturdays NYC

Ant and Dec are so on message.

Mr. McPartlin and Mr. Donnelly appeared on This Morning to talk about the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway studio and Dec even did a bit of self-promotion with his sweatshirt.

Just in case you might forget which day the show's on, he wore a top that says 'Saturdays' in huge letters. But more than just being an advert, we love this too cool for school sweatshirt, which is by surf brand Saturdays NYC.

The slogan trend has been kicking around for a while now, so if you still haven't got involved then now is as good a time as any. Click (right) to buy Dec's exact style at Mr Porter, then team it with jeans and trainers to nail laidback luxe.

Ignoring the reference to Dec's size, the duo explained that they love Takeaway so much because it's like the TV they watched growing up, as children, on Saturdays.

This provided another opportunity for Eamonn to get faux-catty.

'I used to watch that show on a Saturday morning when I was at school,' he said. 'What was it called? SMTV?'

Again, Eamonn was poking fun at the boys, who are younger than him and started out on SMTV in the late 1990s with Cat Deeley - something they are hoping to reboot for a one off special for the show's 20th anniversary next year.

'If she can't do it, I'm free!' Ruth offered, given Cat's stardom in the states.

Eamonn then brought up when he and Ruth appeared on Beat The Boys - a segment from a previous season in which Ant & Dec would race famous twosomes around a motor track.

'I have a life-long injury from doing that,' Eamonn said, blaming them.

He went on: 'Do you feel like you're role models, to people, like from Newcastle where you come from?'

'We didn't set out to be,' Dec said. 'But hopefully we show what happens if you put your head down, grab any opportunity, work hard.'

'You’ve worked hard!' Eamonn agreed before joking: 'You don’t have much talent but well done!'

Finding it hilarious, Ant remarked: 'Every now and then again we need taking down a peg or two.'

The set visit proved to be a little ill-timed, however, as Ruth and Eamonn failed to make it back to the This Morning studio in time for the end of the ad break.

TV chef Phil Vickery had to step in and read their autocue to buy them time to sprint back to the set.

Takeaway returns on Saturday night at 7PM on ITV1.
