'So close but so far!': Jim Parsons nearly misses Oscars as he's locked out of home without ID but beams as he finally gets snap with Meryl Streep

He is featured in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures.

But Jim Parsons nearly missed the biggest night in Hollywood after a devastating mishap on Sunday.

The 43-year-old star got locked out of his home without his ID, which was required in order to enter the 89th Annual Academy Awards.

But despite hours of sweating under the collar, he finally made it to the star-studded affair held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Jim even photobombed a snapshot as he sat behind Oscar winner Meryl Streep in a final update on social media.

Relieved to have overcome his near disaster, the Golden Globe winner captioned the humorous photo: 'Whatever else happens, Meryl and I shared a laugh. Kind of. #oscarsupdate2017.'

But the evening started off dramatically as he was locked out of his home and posted a selfie, writing: 'Locked out of house without ID which, apparently, you need to get into the Oscars... waiting on someone to get here and let me in. Tux by #isaia , styling by Annie Psaltaris... Academy Awards, 2017... off to an auspicious beginning...!'

However the talented star - who is best known for his comedic role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory - was still able to take the turmoil in stride with a series of hilarious photos and captions.

He even posted an image of his adorable pups who looked at him from inside locked glass doors.

Eventually his friends Todd and Melissa McNeeley came to the rescue and he was able to retrieve his identification.

The Broadway star shared a dual image of himself holding his driver's license as he hopped into a limo.

'Aaaaand we're off! Thank you, Todd and @melissamcneeley for saving my a**.'

The 89th Annual Academy Awards was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and airs on ABC.
