Lionel Patel's insulting letter Tara Brown's family

Lionel Patea (bottom left) described his former girlfriend Tara Brown (main) as a 'dream catch' in an insensitive letter to her family after pleading guilty to her murder in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday. Patea was sentenced to life in prison this week for the murder of Ms Brown, who he bashed to death with a fire hydrant lid after running her car off a Gold Coast road in September, 2015. The 25-year-old man's letter had been prepared for his first day of trial at the Brisbane Supreme Court, but was released to the media by Justice Debra Mullins after he unexpectedly pleaded guilty. Ms Brown's mother, Natalie Hinton (bottom right), told the court she refused to read the handwritten statement from Patea.

The funeral was held after it was revealed an inquest would not be held to investigate the former model's death on February 8 because a post-mortem examination found she died of natural causes.

Photo shows crowd reaction to Oscars mix-up

The Hollywood A-listers seated in the front row at Sunday night's Oscars were just as stunned as viewers at home when the Best Picture award was given to the wrong movie. Announcers Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had accidentally been given the wrong envelope by accountants with PriceWaterHouseCoopers, who tabulate the Academy's voting. Meryl Streep gaped at towards the stage, while The Rock, seated behind her, looked equally confused. Sitting another row back was the Academy's president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who seemed just as out of the loop.

He was up for the coveted best actor gong. But at the very least Ryan Gosling secured the unofficial best solo star honours after gracing the Oscars red carpet in a fetching tuxedo on Sunday.

It was the biggest mistake in Oscar history and it has led to few wild claims over how it happened, including one that it was DiCaprio, seen holding onto the envelope after giving the award before.

Oscars: La La Land named Best Picture winner by MISTAKE

Accounting firm PwC, formerly Price Waterhouse Coopers, who tally the Oscar results, issued an apology after Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway wrongly announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture, rather than the triumphant Moonlight at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. In a heart-stopping moment, the stars and producers of La La Land were stopped midway through their acceptance speeches and forced to hand their trophies to the stars of Moonlight. It has since emerged that there duplicates of each envelope, and Beatty had been handed the duplicate 'Best Actress' envelope, which saw Emma Stone with for La La Land, instead of the Best Picture envelope he was supposed to receive. The firm's statement said that presenters 'had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected'. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Following the blunder, La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz immediately called up the producers of Moonlight and graciously passed his statue over.

Why can't Nicole Kidman CLAP? Actress gets roasted on social media for not being able to applaud properly at the Oscars

She stunned in an Armani gown at this year's Academy Awards, held in Los Angeles. But it wasn't Nicole Kidman's dress that was the focus of attention. Social media went into meltdown when cameras caught the 49-year-old actress clapping in a somewhat unusual manner. Viewers took to Twitter to comment on Nicole's clapping style with one user asking: 'Why does Nicole Kidman clap her hands like that? Weird. Clap like a normal person.'

Jennifer Aniston leads glamour at Vanity Fair Oscars bash

The creme da la creme of Hollywood headed to the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Sunday evening for post-award festivities. Leading the way was pregnant Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (left), who showed off her growing baby bump while hitting the red carpet with her fiancé Jason Statham. She was joined by Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Emily Ratajkowski (centre left-right) at the incredibly glamorous bash.

Although the 2017 Oscar ceremony will probably go down in history as the biggest blunder ever, plenty of the Hollywood events have previously endured controversial moments.

All eyes may have been on the outfits for those watching the Academy Awards red carpet on Sunday, but the fashion disasters didn't stop there.

PIERS MORGAN: Hollywood can't see or recognize The Truth

HA HA HA HA HA... Sorry. Nope, not sorry. Let's be honest, the greatest Oscars fiasco in history couldn't have happened to a bunch of smugger, more deserving people. All night, the theme of the Academy Awards had been one of 'truth'. Warren Beatty strode on stage with Faye Dunaway to present the final award for Best Picture and gleefully seized on it: 'Our goal in politics is the same as our goal in art, and that's to get to the truth,' he solemnly declared. Then the most spectacular, humiliating, hide-behind-the-couch moment to ever befell any awards show happened on the night they conspired to damn Donald Trump with 'The Truth'.
