Back in action! The Backstreet Boys inaugurate residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas

The Backstreet Boys spent Wednesday night playing the first show of their residency at The AXIS At Planet Hollywood Resort And Casino in Las Vegas.

Founded in 1993, the five-member boy band shed singer Kevin Richardson for six years, but inasmuch as he returned in 2012, the full original group took the stage.

Swapping their way through multiple costumes, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Richardson and Brian Littrell sang 20 numbers, per USA Today.

Opening with Larger Than Life - off their 1999 album Millennium - they'd begun their act in head-to-toe white ensembles featuring coats.

Their gleaming jackets were buttoned up and fell just past the waist for everyone but McLean, in whose case it dangled past his knees.

McLean, unlike the rest of them, had also got on a pair of black sunglasses, though all of them did wear silver shoes that shone under the lights.

Carter could be seen performing at one point in a black blazer speckled with silver splotches, over a black dress shirt, black trousers and black shoes.

McLean's costumes included a button-up short-sleeved black shirt with matching trousers and top hat, plus glinting straps crisscrossing over his chest.

At another point, they all performed in outfits that had some sort of a mix of black and red - though in Richardson's case, the only red was his shoes.

Littrell, who's 42 now, wore an asymmetric red leather jacket over a red and black T-shirt, matching a black hat with his equally black trousers and shoes.

Meanwhile, his cousin Richardson, 45, clashed his red shoes against a black leather overcoat that complemented his hat, top and slacks.

Carter, who's gone 37, had streaks of red over the left sleeve of his leather jacket, but other than that, the entire look - hat included - was black.

McLean and Dorough - 39 and 43, respectively - mirrored one another, with red leather jackets flung over otherwise black ensembles.

Jokes abounded from the band members, Carter vamping: 'How many ladies got a hall pass to come spend the night with the Backstreet Boys?'

Littrell asked the crowd of the now 24-year-old band: 'Is it OK if we have another 24 years?' quipping: 'Backstreet’s old, okay?'
