Moonlight producer Brad Pitt skipped Oscars to 'work on secret sculpture'... amid rumors World War Z sequel is in turmoil

His company Plan B Entertainment produced Oscar winner Moonlight.

So it's little wonder that Brad Pitt's absence from the Academy Awards on Sunday definitely raised a few eyebrows.

As it turns out, The Hollywood Reporter received a tip that the 55-year-old Fight Club star opted to skip the festivities to continue work on a very secret project: a sculpture.

It seems Brad secluded himself in noted British artist Thomas Houseago's Frogtown studio to work on the piece.

While it's not clear what form the sculpture is taking or what his inspiration may be, the same source claims that the multiple Oscar-winner has been working on the artistic endeavor for at least ten days.

Of course Moonlight ended up winning the Best Picture gong at the Oscars on Sunday, a film which Brad Pitt is listed as an executive producer.

While his Plan B shingle has bathed in success as of late, the Hollywood veteran's acting career may have hit a bit of a speed bump.

He was slated to reprise his role in a sequel to the 2013 hit zombie thriller World War Z, a movie which was originally scheduled for a summer 2017 release.

However, back in February The Wrap revealed that Paramount Pictures had removed the movie produced by and starring Brad from its scheduled release date of June this year.

And in what observers consider a bad sign, the studio didn't give an alternative date for when the film would hit movie theaters.

A sequel was greenlit almost immediately following the release of World War Z in June 2013, which grossed about half a billion dollars worldwide and was one of the biggest box office hits of Pitt's career.

But the project, being produced through the actor's Plan B Productions, stalled at the script stage and while Pitt was committed to return in the leading role of Gerry Lane, there was no word of any other casting decisions.

Luckily the multi-talented performer does in fact have another movie scheduled for release, the somewhat satirical War Machine, which is due out later this year.
