She posted a cute black and white picture which she captioned: 'Happy sweet 16th birthday to my baby girl Lexi!'

Iman also has daughter Zulekha, 38, with ex-husband Spencer Haywood, whilst David had son Duncan, 45, with ex-wife Angie.

The birth of Lexi in 2000 changed David, with the singer making the decision to step away from the spotlight and limit live performances so he could spend time with his daughter.

The late star, whose stage personas over the years most famously included the flamboyant and androgynous Ziggy Stardust, was focused on being a father after choosing his career over spending time with his son during the boy's early years.

‘He missed out on much of Zowie’s young life, and wanted to spend as much time as possible with Lexi,’ said Bowie biographer David Buckley.

David died from liver cancer on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of his final album, Blackstar.

He was awarded two posthumous gongs at the BRITs ceremony last month, and the star's son Duncan accepted the gongs on his behalf as he paid tribute to his father.

He explained: 'This award is for all the kooks and all the people that make the kooks.'

He later added on Twitter: 'I did forget one little bit of the speech though.... F**k cancer. F**k it right off the planet.'
