George Michael's lover Fadi Fawaz said he can finally 'grieve' after a post mortem revealed the superstar singer died of natural causes.

It was confirmed the singer died of cardiomyopathy and myocarditis and fatty liver disease, scotching rumours he died as a result of a drugs overdose on Christmas Day last year.

Speaking outside the Regent's Park home owned by the Wham! singer, Fawaz said the period since Michael's death has been 'painful' for him, and he pleaded for 'some love from the world.'

After the results of the post mortem emerged, Fawaz said: 'I feel wonderful.

'Yes, of course I am happy, that the truth is out and that no one is doubting.

'I am very happy. Because first of all, the truth is out and I am not getting doubted anymore from the world.

'And I am happy now he can rest, and we can rest as well.

'It was really painful to feel I was doubted. It was very painful, but now it is all good.

'And I am sure George is happy, now that everything is out.'

He continued: 'We can move forward.

'I am not going to leave it behind me. It has been really, really tough and upsetting, and shocking - two-and-a-half months.'

Reflecting on how he felt to hear the cause of Michael's death confirmed, Fawaz said: 'I got a call. I felt happy, now that he can rest peacefully.

'Now I can celebrate the life, the love we had, and move on as one. Let him rest. I don't know what is yet to happen.'

Asked to reflect on his memories of Michael, he said: 'I keep the happy times just him and me.

'I have always kept it between him and I. I have managed for five years not to be famous. I would like to go back to that.'

Asked how difficult the past few weeks had been, he said: 'It is just the lies. I couldn't describe how painful that was. It is really painful.'

Looking ahead on his future plans, Fawaz said: 'To have the funeral, and just sit back and look at things. I can let go. I can try to let go from all the bad news.

'I demand some love from the world that I didn't get in the last two-and-a-half months. And that is all I can say really for today.

'Now I can grieve. Now that I am left alone, I can grieve. I have not been able to because I had so much to deal with.

'That is the truth. Now I can start grieving, and going through my thing without being looked at in a funny way, you know.

'It was painful walking the street and getting funny looks.

'And going to the supermarket, and the woman would not touch your hand when she gives you change.

'It was very painful, and really not fair. That is all I can say.'

Discussing his plans for the rest of the day having heard the coroner's announcement, he said: 'Go for a walk. I was going to do so many things, but now I am just going to enjoy. It is a good day.

'I am going to take it easy. Every day it has just been horrible.

'I might think later of a few things to say.

'But at the moment I am just going to say 'thank you universe, for the truth'. That is all.'

Asked about Michael's will, Fawaz said: 'I have nothing to say about that, absolutely nothing.'

Fawaz had previously hit out in a tweet after the coroner delivered his conclusions, tweeting shortly afterwards: 'F*** YOU' and 'The Truth is out'.

The hairdresser has come under fire from some fans since the singer's death and his Twitter account was said have been hacked before comments were posted suggesting Michael had wanted to take his own life.

The 999 call he made was also leaked.

Darren Salter, senior coroner for Oxfordshire, said today: 'Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received.

'As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries.'

The funeral had been delayed after an initial post-mortem examination was said to have been 'inconclusive'.

Toxicology tests were also ordered to determine whether drugs contributed to his death, but today's statement means only his family are likely to see the results.

Michael, whose hits including Last Christmas and Freedom, had suffered health scares and fought drug addiction for years.

Tweets posted on the account of Fawaz had suggested the star had previously tried to take his own life. But Fawaz later insisted his account had been hacked.

The former hairdresser, who dated Michael for five years, had been questioned by police as they tried to piece together the final hours of the star’s life.

He is understood to have said he spent Christmas Eve with the singer, but fell asleep in his car that night, only discovering Michael was dead when he went to wake him the following morning.

Michael's cousin, Andros Georgiou, had said he suspected the singer died of an accidental drugs overdose and former lover Paul Stag claimed he had been hooked on a drug called Liquid G.

But Michael's former partner Kenny Goss said he believed the pop superstar's body 'just gave up'.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: 'I can't say for sure but I think his body just gave up. All these years, it was just weak.'

Dilated cardiomyopathy, identified as a cause of Michael's death today, is a disease of the heart muscle which affects how blood is able to pump around the body.

In some cases, it is an inherited condition, otherwise, it is caused by things such as viral infections, uncontrolled high blood pressure and problems with the heart valves.

Myocarditis meanwhile is inflammation in or around the heart and is usually caused by a viral, bacterial or fungal infection.

The third condition listed by the coroner, fatty liver disease, can be caused by a build-up of fat in the liver and is usually seen in people who are overweight or obese.

A different type of fatty liver disease is caused by excessive drinking and is known as alcoholic fatty liver disease.

What is myocarditis?

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle. There are no specific causes of the condition but viruses are usually responsible.

It could be triggered by infections such as measles, chickenpox and the flu, or even more dangerous ones, including HIV.

Complications can develop quickly, and can include an abnormal heart beat or even organ failure.

There's no reason why someone with an infection may develop myocarditis - it is often a case of bad luck.

'It is the most common cause of sudden adult death,' explained consultant cardiologist Dr Nigel Durham of York Hospital previously.

In most cases, the illness goes away and there are no complications - but in very severe situations it can be fatal.

It can lead to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) - where the heart muscle become stretched and thin and is unable to pump blood efficiently.

Around a third of DCM sufferers inherit the condition from their parents, but taking cocaine, amphetamines and alcohol are known causes.

HIV and high blood pressure are two other common risk factors.

WHAT ABOUT FATTY LIVER DISEASE?

Fatty liver disease is a condition in which fat builds up in the cells of your liver.

The main cause is from drinking too much alcohol over a long period of time, but a poor diet is another common risk factor.

It can lead to cirrhosis - irreversible scarring of the liver which affects the organ's ability to work properly - which can be life-threatening.

Tributes were paid to Michael at the recent Brit and Grammy awards ceremonies.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sang alongside Michael's rendition of his ballad A Different Corner at the Brits while clips from his career were played.

The performance followed a tearful speech from Michael's former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley and the band's backing singers Helen DeMacque and Shirlie Holliman, otherwise known as Pepsi & Shirlie.

Ridgeley said: 'On Christmas Day 2016, the greatest singer-songwriter of his generation, an icon of his era and my beloved friend George Michael was lost.'

He described Michael as a 'supernova' and that his death 'felt like the sky had fallen in'.

At the Grammys, Adele performed a slowed-down version of Michael's song Fast Love after restarting her first rendition, saying the tribute was 'too important'.
