Hoaxer convinces live German TV show he is Ryan Gosling and goes on stage to accept La La Land award as stars including Nicole Kidman and Jane Fonda look on in horror

  • German pranksters set up a fake agency and duped Goldene Kamera organisers
  • The Gosling 'lookalike' waltzed on-stage, collected the prize and made a speech
  • Imposter is actually Ludwig Lehner, a cook and amateur comedian from Munich
  • Stars in the crowd including Kidman, Fonda and Colin Farrell realise instantly
  • It follows La La Land incorrectly being announced as best picture at the Oscars

A German film awards ceremony descended into farce when an utterly unconvincing Ryan Gosling 'lookalike' waltzed onto the stage to collect a prize for La La Land.

The Goldene Kamera awards usually focuses on actors and directors from its home country, but some A-List names will arrive from Hollywood - and almost always end up walking away with a prize.

But two comedians - Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf - decided they would throw a spanner in the works.

Rapture: The excitement from host Steven Gaetjen was palpable as he introduced 'one of the hottest stars in Hollywood... the one and only, Ryan Gosling' to the stage

The excitement in the voice of host Steven Gaetjen is palpable as he introduces 'one of the hottest stars in Hollywood... the one and only, Ryan Gosling' to the stage.

They set up a fake agency and purported that they could get heart-throb Gosling to appear at the ceremony, on the condition he won something.

The excitement in the voice of host Steven Gaetjen is palpable as he introduces 'one of the hottest stars in Hollywood... the one and only, Ryan Gosling' to the stage.

Out steps a gentleman who, while possessing a passing resemblance in some of his features, is quite clearly a portly imitation.

Baffled: Marching on the stage, he announced: 'Good evening, I am Ryan Gosling! ... There is a saying in Hamburg, which is, 'bye, bye!' before he quickly made his way off stage, still clutching the award

'Good evening, I am Ryan Gosling!' he declares in a broad German accent. 'I dedicate this award to Joko and Klass, thank you very much. There is a saying in Hamburg, which is, 'bye, bye!' he adds, before quickly making his way off stage

It later transpired that he was a cook from Munich, named Ludwig Lehner.

The awkwardness grows as everyone in the room spots that the man a fraud - particularly fellow stars Nicole Kidman, Jane Fonda and Colin Farrell - except Gaetjen, who allows him to make a speech.

'Good evening, I am Ryan Gosling!' he declares in a broad German accent.

He adds: 'I dedicate this award to Joko and Klass, thank you very much. There is a saying in Hamburg, which is, 'bye, bye!' before swiftly making his way off stage.

Sadness: As life returned to normal in the Bavarian town of Kirchseeon, where he lives, after the ceremony furore,  Lehner revealed his brother's death had made him stop posing as Gosling for several years. Pictured: The real star with actress Emma Stone

Nicole Kidman appears to find the situation somewhat amusing

Fun: Lehner said it was only when he was approached about the idea earlier this year that he decided to carry out the stunt. Stars such as Jane Fonda (top left), Nicole Kidman (top right) and Colin Farrell (bottom) instantly spotted that it was not really Gosling

Proud: He was called six weeks ago by the German comedy duo Joko Winterscheidt (left) and Klaas Heufer-Umlau (right) and Lehner said he did it in his brother's memory

The broadcaster's translator also provides a voiceover in German, seemingly unaware of what is unfolding.

The camera pans to Kidman, Fonda and Farrell respectively, who look utterly bewildered.

Gaetjen then has to sheepishly explain that there has been a mistake, which can happen during live broadcasts.

Organisers have already reportedly ordered a complete revision of security procedures following the gaffe.

It's another La La Land mix-up...

It's starting to seem like La La Land and awards ceremonies simply do not mix well.

The fake Ryan Gosling is the second high-profile gaffe involving the film within the space of a fortnight.

It was only Sunday last week when the musical was incorrectly announced as the Academy Award winner for Best Picture.

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were handed the wrong card and announced La La Land as the winner, only for the cast to realise halfway through their acceptance speech that it was actually meant to go to Moonlight.

It lead to global humiliation for Oscars organisers, and is generally regarded as the biggest mistake in the award ceremony's 89-year history.

The accountancy firm in charge of the results, PwC, later apologized and said it was to blame for the mistake.
