Kristen, 36, said she wanted to do something special for her hard-working older sister, who is always busy taking care of her four children and has 'no time for herself.'

The actress is the youngest of three sisters and grew up in the Detroit area.

The star of NBC's 'The Good Place' said: 'Getting the chance to spoil her and create a space that functions better for her family would just be such an epic surprise.'

Kristen added: '(Sara) is honestly in my eyes a superwoman. Always the glue and the mortar of our family.'

Kristen, with Kennedy's help, converted the space into a large play area for Sara's three young boys.

She also renovated the bedroom for Sara's daughter Lucy, who is becoming a teenager.

Sara became emotional upon seeing Bell's renovations.

In an interview, she said: 'When I look around the basement, I see a lot of Kristen down here. I feel like she's put her special touch in a lot of different spots for everybody.'

She added, tearfully, to Kristen: 'I know you poured your heart into this for me and all of us, and "thank you" is not enough.'

Sara said she would not change a thing about her younger sister's renovation.
