Naprosyn having generic name naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is known in the abbreviated form as NSAID. It is a propionic acid derivative that is related to the aryl acetic group of acid of NSAID’s.

Naprosyn is available in the form of yellow tablets comprising of 250 mg of naproxen, the pink tablets comprising of naproxen in 375 mg and the yellow colored pill comprising of 500 mg of naproxen. The tablet also constitute to certain inactive ingredients like iron oxides, povidone, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.

Medical Uses

Naprosyn tablets are used in the treatment of pain or inflammation that could have been caused due to conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendinitis, ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis, gout or even due to menstrual cramps. It is also used to relieve pain that arises due to a number of conditions like headaches, muscle aches, dental pain and more. The pill works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body that can give rise to inflammation.

Dosing guide

Naprosyn may be taken multiple times in a day depending on the health condition and as prescribed by the healthcare provider. It can be taken with a glass of water by mouth. Usually, it is taken two three times each day and the tablets should not be broken, crushed or chewed. They are to be swallowed as a whole. Physicians generally recommend people to take the drug in lower dosage strengths that is considered to be most effective in alleviating pain.

Naprosyn can be consumed with milk, food or with antacid so as to prevent stomach upset. One should not lie down for at least ten minutes after consuming the pill. Take the medicine exactly as directed by the physician and do not increase or decrease the dosage strength unless it is told by the physician to do so. Never take two doses at the same time so as to compensate the missed dose or thinking that it will give you an instant relief from pain. Both of this can end up in fatal complications.

It is advisable to not use this drug if you have experienced any form of allergic reactions while using NSAIDs, aspirin or ibuprofen.

Taking Naprosyn for longer periods or in high doses can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The drug is not recommended for use right before or after a cardiac bypass surgery or any other type of heart surgery.

At any time while using the drug if you experience chest pain or symptoms of a heart attack, get emergency medical attention.

Pregnant women should not take Naprosyn during the third trimester as it can cause harmful effects on the unborn baby. Inform the doctor if you are pregnant or expecting to become pregnant.

The effects of this drug can pass through breast milk and hence breast-feeding is not recommended while taking this medication.

Keep the doctor informed of any existing conditions like heart diseases, high cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure issues, asthma, stomach ulcers, strokes, liver disease, kidney problems, and smoking.

Side Effects
