After beating Rutgers by nearly 20 points, Northwestern secured their spot in the tournament, despite losing to Wisconsin by an embarrassing margin of 76-48 in the Conference Championship semi finals. The tournament begins on Tuesday, and will go on through the final game, which will be played on April 3 in Phoenix Arizona.

Deputy Taner Primmer had no choice but to act fast when he learned that two young women were in the path of a Carnival Cruise ship in Port Canaveral, Florida, on Saturday. In town for Spring Break, Allison Garrett, 20, and Skylar Penpasuglia, 19, both of Princeton, West Virginia, were riding the watercraft together when it overturned, dumping them into the water. The day's wind pushed the women into the port's narrow channel and in the way of the 13,000-ton ship. Primmer pulled each of them out of the water, just before the ship sailed past them, in a dramatic event captured by a passenger on the cruise ship.

Things got heated on the NASCAR track when Kyle Busch furiously sucker punched Joey Logano after the race on Sunday. Busch was angry with Logano after his No 18 spun out on the final lap of the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas. Members of Logano's Team Penske crew quickly pulled their driver away when Busch charged toward him on pit row moments after the race finished. Logano ended up finishing fourth, while Busch finished 22nd.

Four people were shot, three fatally, including teenage twin sisters, inside an Illinois condo on Friday night in what police say is a 'domestic related incident'. Twins Brittany and Tiffany Coffland, both aged 16, and their father, Randall Coffland, 48, were found dead by police in St. Charles, WGN-TV reported. The girls' mother, Anjum Coffland, 46, was also shot and injured in the residence. She was rushed to Delnor Hospital in Geneva with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

New footage inside the Royal Caribbean cruise ship that ran into high winds and rough seas in the Atlantic Ocean last year has emerged. The terrifying video shows a passenger looking out the window as 30ft waves submerged the ship during the hurricane force storm. Little Ashanti Hughes died on Saturday morning after suffering severe burns and injuries in the house fire at 2534 Lexington Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday. Two other girls remain hospitalized in critical condition after the blaze while a man and his teenage son were treated and released. Fire Lt. Dennis DeVoe was responding to reports of the fire when his vehicle was hit at an intersection by 19-year-old Khanyae Kendall, who was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle. The firefighter was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

A famed war photographer has used his camera lens to focus and highlight racism, poverty and violence in America. Savannah was the latest of the Today show crew to star in a photo with 52-year-old Hoda's newly adopted baby girl. Elmer, 93, and Ruth Bihl, (pictured) 89, died 23 hours apart after being married for nearly 70 years. Mr Bihl died March 1 at 6.10am and Mrs Bihl died March 2 at 5.10 am in St Cloud, Florida. The couple had spent their remaining years of life in Solaris Healthcare nursing home. Bihl's family said the grandfather had an unwavering love for his wife and always said he wanted to die with her.

Footage shows a zoo in Bangkok profiteering from 'orangutan boxing'. Activists have heavily criticised the show arguing the show is cruel to the sweet-natured primates. In addition to the two apes mock-fighting, other oranguatans are made to dress up in bikinis holding ring cards. Despite trying to frame the show as fun and friendly japes, orangutans are often taken from their mothers in the wild and sold illicitly to black market traders. Noel Parminter stumbled upon a harrowing huntsman family in the roof of a Kholo home in Queensland. Footage shows the mammoth mother spider keeping a close watch over her hatchlings as they clamber out of their nest.
