After more than twenty years of uninterrupted growth, Ghent University in Belgium is now one of the most important institutions of higher education and research in the Low Countries. Ghent University yearly attracts over 28,000 students, with a foreign student population of over 2,200 EU and non-EU citizens and offers a broad range of study programmes in all academic and scientific branches. One of the focus points of the university library is long-term digital preservation. One aspect of that task is to preserve the content of various university websites at different points in time.
De Krook opening weekend is a collection of websites archived around the opening weekend of De Krook: the public library and digital innovation centre in Ghent, Belgium. The collection includes De Krook website, its social media channels (e.g. twitter, facebook, instagram and youtube) and the websites of the organisations which will be located in De Krook. Additionally, the collection includes media coverage about the opening from newspapers, professional associations and other related organisations. Tourist information as well as general social media coverage related to Ghent is included. Attention has been paid to gathering information in the official languages of Belgium: Dutch, French and German as well as English content.
The content of all Wikimedia projects is released under free licenses. Write code to access, remix and grow this immense pool of free knowledge using the robust action API, available on all MediaWiki wikis, and other APIs for content and Wikidata. Other open data sources, including XML and SQL dumps, are also available.
