'So, we are having a technical difficulty. I'm not quite sure what it is,' she told concert goers according to footage released online.

As the stage crew scrambled to find the source of the blackout, the Hello singer chatted with fans and asked parents with children in the audience if she could share a naughty joke.

'Shall I tell you my filthy joke despite all the children here? I need more applause than that because I might offend someone,' she asked the crowd, according to News.com.au.

After she was met with a roar of approval, Adele said: 'What do you call a blonde standing on her head? A brunette with bad breath.'

The cheeky singer's x-rated quip caused a social media storm and Twitter users praised Adele's composure during the awkward power outage.

'I have never laughed or cried so much in the same two hours. What an emotional roller coaster,' one user said.

'My Goodness Adele what a talent. Amazing voice, top banter. A brilliant show,' a woman said.

Another said: 'Hmm so Adele says power has gone out under stage at Adelaide Oval. Now telling jokes while it's fixed. How apt.'

'Jokes for Adele. Two batteries walk into an SA bar.... one charges to the other!,' a man wrote.

It's believed power was cut to the rotating stage at Adelaide Oval after a cord was accidentally unplugged - despite initial concerns it was related to the state's energy problems.

But that didn't stop the audience from having a few jokes at South Australia's expense.

'The power has gone out on Adele's stage at Adelaide Oval. She's had to stop singing and tell jokes. Claaaaaasic Adelaide [sic],' one woman tweeted on Monday night.

'What a welcome to her from the black out state of Australia,' another said.

'Apparently the power has gone out on stage at the Adele concert and she can't perform. This is just peak Adelaide,' a man wrote.

Power outages have been a common occurrence in Adelaide as of late.

In February a severe heatwave caused a blackout and forced 42,000 people to swelter through 42 degree heat without air conditioning.

The state's power supply was also out for 24 hours in September 2016, following a storm.

Adelaide was hit with 80,000 lightening strikes during the storm which plunged the state into darkness.
