He needs to improve his net work! Mark Zuckerberg is caught on camera flubbing an easy shot on the basketball court as he continues his tour of the U.S.

  • Mark Zuckerberg  airballed while visiting the University of North Carolina basketball team on their home court on Monday
  • His shot falls extremely short, with the ball barely hitting the bottom of the net
  • Zuckerberg said the UNC team gave him the nickname 'Zuckerbuckets'
  • He made the trip for research for his NCAA March Madness bracket
  • He also visited Duke, and wished both teams luck in the upcoming tournament

Mark Zuckerberg may have been accepted to Harvard, but it definitely wasn't on a basketball scholarship.

The Facebook CEO showed off his basketball talents - or lack thereof - on a trip to visit the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on their home court in Chapel Hill.

A video shows him airballing during a shootaround with the No. 1-seeded team on Monday days before they play Texas Southern in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

In the video, Zuckerberg, 32, stands near the foul line and sets up to take a shot.

He dribbles once before taking a slight jump and aiming for the net. But he falls extremely short, with the ball barely hitting the bottom of the net.

Zuckerberg also visited Duke's team, in what he said was a trip to do research for his March Madness bracket. A video of his shot was uploaded to Twitter.

'A special thanks to the UNC team for not laughing too hard at what was probably the worst basketball ever played on their court,' he wrote in a Facebook post following his visit.

'I'd say my basketball is about as good as their coding, but at least one of the players I met is a computer science major so I don't even have that to fall back on.'

He said the UNC team gave him the nickname 'Zuckerbuckets' after his less-than-impressive basketball performance.

He wished both teams luck in the upcoming tournament, mentioning that he's 'interested in how sports form the basis for communities'.

'We all need to be part of something bigger than ourselves - whether that's a team or a community that roots for a team,' he wrote.

Zuckerberg thanked UNC's Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the student athletes who took time out of their busy schedules to speak with him.

He wrote: 'Thanks to Coach K and Coach Williams for teaching me how you set values for your organizations - from making sure everyone feels ownership of the team to making sure the team feels like a family.

'As Coach K said, the players each "need to have the courage to lead at the moment leadership is needed".

'Also, thanks to the student athletes who shared with me their experiences of how important trust and communication between the players is.

'They each gave examples of how they made mistakes and needed to work hard at not losing confidence in themselves and their teammates so they could keep performing at peak levels in competitive situations.

'It reminded me of how important trust and teamwork is at Facebook.'

Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, has been on a tour of several southern states as part of his goal to visit all of the United States.

While in North Carolina, he also tried his hand at NASCAR racing with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The billionaire sat in the passenger seat on Tuesday as driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove around a track in Charlotte, North Carolina, at speeds of up to 170mph.

Since mid-February Zuckerberg has visited locations around Louisiana, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama.

He has visited factories, local newspapers, churches and more on his quest across America's deep south.

In his Facebook post announcing the trip, he said he was 'looking at more of the world through the lens of building community these days'.

'We are all part of many communities,' he wrote. 'The strength of these local communities is what makes up our social fabric and that's what enables us to come together as a global community as well.'

Zuckerberg announced his pledge to visit all 50 states at the start of the year.

At the time of his announcement, he had already visited 20 throughout his lifetime, and said there were 30 he needed to drop in on.

The tour began in Dallas on January 18 when he helped a youth group plant a tree in Oak Cliff on Martin Luther King Day. He went without Priscilla and their daughter and took in a Fort Worth Rodeo as well as spending time talking with community leaders.

'In many ways, I still don't have a clear sense of Texas. This state is complex, and everyone has a lot of layers - as Americans, as Texans, as members of a local community, and even just as individuals.

'But this trip has helped me understand just how important community is, and how we're all just looking for something we can trust,' he said of the trip.

Later, he visited Redmond in Washington where he visited the Oculus research lab.

Zuckerberg fueled speculation he was considering a move into politics when he revealed his plan at the start of the year.

He has hired a professional photographer to join him on the road and, friends say, has become increasingly aware of his public persona.

Zuckerberg insists he's not got his eye on the White House, as suspected.
