Romain Dauriac steps out with daughter Rose in New York while estranged wife Scarlett Johansson promotes new film in Japan amid custody battle

Romain Dauriac, the estranged husband of Scarlett Johansson, has been pictured in New York with the duo's two-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy, on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old French journalist is taking care of the girl while Scarlett is away in Japan fulfilling her promotional duties for movie Ghost In The Shell.

Dauriac wore a dark fur-trimmed jacket as he doted over the toddler while walking through the snow-covered streets of Manhattan.

The doting dad carried his little girl's pink bag and sippy cup as she snuggled into his shoulder.

Dauriac expressed his shock earlier this month when Scarlett, 32, filed divorce papers at a New York court saying the marriage was 'irretrievably broken.'

It happened at a time Dauriac said they'd been trying to negotiate matters privately.

He sees the move as a 'pre-emptive strike' in a battle over custody of the couple's daughter, his lawyer Hal Mayerson said at the time.

In a statement following the March 7 filing Dauriac said: 'It is indeed unfortunate, especially for our daughter, that Scarlett filed in Court and made our personal differences so public,

'I would implore her to withdraw her action promptly and go back, as uncomfortable as it might be, to the negotiating table. We are the parents of a lovely daughter whom we will continue to co-parent for many years and share her joys and sorrows as only a parent can.'

The couple split in the summer after less than two years of marriage and have very different ideas about where their only child should be brought up.

The Frenchman claims he is the girl's primary parent due to Scarlett's busy work schedule and has expressed his desire to have Rose live with him in France.

Scarlett wants joint custody and would like her daughter to reside in New York with her.

Dauriac plans to petition the court to take the child to live with him in his native France, Mayerson said, adding that Johansson will have 'access to her daughter any time she wants to come to Paris.'

Dauriac has no intention of cutting Johansson off from her daughter, his lawyer told People.

'Ms. Johansson has two apartments in Paris. She can come any time she wants to see [Rose] and have the child with her,' Mayerson said.

'If she’s traveling, we expect there would be a schedule that would be roughly equal between them.'

'Mr. Dauriac is tired of having to run his life and his child's life based on Ms. Johansson's shooting schedule,' Mayerson said.

Meanwhile Scarlett was pictured in Tokyo on Wednesday for the premiere of Ghost In The Shell.

She also hosted Saturday Night Live for the fifth time over the weekend.
